German 500 and Rockingham 500 LIVE - euro sat tv listings...

For those of you with FTA Digital Satellite systems, the German 500 and Rockingham 500 are being shown LIVE on these channels:

German 500
Qual: ARD?? Time: ?? (Qualifing is live channel unknown, possibly ORB)
Race: ARD 1 Time: Noon - 3pm
Race: Italia 1 Time as above.

Rockingham 500
Qual: ??
Race: Italia 1 Time unknown as yet.

------------------------------------

These channels are free to air, i.e. not encrypted, in Digital format and are on the following satellites:

ARD - Astra 1, location 19.2 Deg. East (The old Sky Analogue Satellite)
Frequency: 11.837Mhz
Polarity: H
S/R: 27500
FEC: 3/4

(It is a German channel - also in Analogue from same satellite 11.493 H)

Italia 1 - Hotbird 1-5, location 13 Deg. East (a popular Euro Satellite)
Frequency: 11.919Mhz
Polarity: Vertical
S/R: 27500
FEC: 2/3

(Italy Canal+ channel) (not transmitted in Analogue)

If you have a Sky Digital system you can tune into these channels BUT you will need a second 60cm dish (the Sky mini-dish is not big enough).

If anybody wants me to post up instructions on how to get these channels on a Sky box let me know, both Astra 1 and Hotbird are reasonably easy to find as both have very strong UK signals.

Surely, Ian, the problem with the Sky mini-dish is that its pointed at 28.5.?You would need to move the dish to get any signal from 19o E or 13o. I already have 2 dishes, and I think someone might object if I added a 3rd! A motorised movable one would not work due to surounding buildings.

No, the Sky mini dish is too small (I tried it a long time ago), to pick up signals from A1 & HD on the Sky box you need at least a 60 or even a 70cm dish, you'd probably be able to pick up the analogue signals (with a suitable receiver), but not the digital one.

Italia 1 is on another bird, slightly further around on the axis, you can buy offset brackets for Astra and Hotbird, the second HB LNB would go on the left hand side of the center LNB as you face it.

But that's not to say that another Astra based channel will show Rockingham, I checked ARD's listing for the 22nd and it's not listed.

Looks like the BBC (23rd) will be edited highlighs, only 1 and a half hours are allocated for the 500 mile race.

www.rockingham500.co.uk > rockingham new section.

Then again it could rain and there'd be no race to show

So i assume it is impossible to get this Italia channel without moving you dish to point at a differant satellite.

What's your dish pointed at now? Astra 1?
(dohhh, you just told me that).

Erm, yes you could leave it where it is and get an offset bracket and a second LNB, you wouldn't need to move the dish, you'd just need to remove the existing LNB, fit the extension bracket, then bolt the two LNB's back on, the second Hotbird LNB would need to be offset about 4 - 6 deg. from the center, main (Astra) LNB, this is virtually all done with the bracket if you get the right one.

Have you got this LNB wired into a Sky Digital box, or is it a FTA digital box?

Where are you? UK?

I do have a Channel Master LNB Adaptor if you're interested (cost price - very reasonable), I could align in with my dish and send it to you assembled so all you'd do is bolt it on and add the second LNB, but I don't have any LNB's (your feed arm has to be of the rounded type, not square).

A bit complicated

Could you explain this better? It seems a bit complicated, where does this new stuff go?

I live in the north of scotland and i have an old sky ANALOG dish pointing at ASTRA 1.

Hi Gregor

Let's go back to basics (the fitting bit will be simple)

What size dish have you got? 60cm or 80cm?

What type of receiver is connected to this dish?

Can you physically get to the dish?

If you wonna take this onto email fell free, it may be quicker/easier.
My email is in the profile.

Then you can't do it 'cos you need to get to the dish to put the extra LNB on it, sorry m8.

Hopefully there will be a Astra 19.2 Deg. based channel doing Rockingham though.

BTW, have you ever thought about DivX for your video's? You'd possibly get lower file sizes and better quality if encoded correctly.
