Dumbest mistake at Bathurst predictions.
Any nominations for what you think will be the dumbest mistake at Bathurst this year and by who?

KRT had a portaloo at Sandown, no reason to think it wont be at Bathurst... theirs was directly behind their pit garage, the HRT bods had to jump down a wall and clamber thru the mud to get to theirs Then back up the wall to get back to the pit garage...

They might be able to save a few seconds by having it actually in pitlane

If the 5 minute thing happens again, they have enough time to go over the pit straight bridge and share the one under the grandstand and still be back in time!

A team that performs a lightning fast wheel stop then waits 20 seconds for the fuel to fill up only to see the car lose a wheel before completeing another lap.

A team that replaces the brake pads at the earliest possible stop, then the driver complains in the last stint that the car is almost out of brakes, and hard to stop....

I don't know but if PWR was still racing they would have had to have been the most likely, funny how they stopped losing wheels when they got a 50k fine

I'd say the dumbest mistake will be to let Thexton on the mountain, however that's just tooooo easy.
I'm looking forward to those teams who think they can run the race on a four stop strategy, and finish the race on lap 160 half way down conrod ... |

Sir Speedy Thexalot will likely qualify, I dont think his codriver has that particular asset for the team, so it would be a mistake to have chosen Mr Voight when the car is likely to DNQ because of his lack of pace, not Speedy's!

It will most likely be an 18 or lower to make the cut and personally I can see Thecko losing up to 6-7 seconds just from Sulman Park to the Elbow so he will be lucky to make the cut if the wide open spaces and flowing nature of OP had him rattled.

OP had Speedy rattled because of the bumps and the ripple strips.... it kept bouncing the car off line and (I think) scaring the poop out of him.
Given the additional time of running the Rod Dawson car in the Konica practice sessions, Speedy may surprise |

Last year the cut off was a 17.3,BJR had pole with an AU,The BA is faster than the AU so it is fair to assume a faster time so hence a lower cut off,say a 17 dead.
Last year Kevin Munday did a 17.3 in the Konica race and at Mallala ,which is a simple track Thecko was 1 second slower than him so if that 1 second gap alone was maintained he would be out.I would imagine that Bathurst is a bit trickier than Mallala. I don't want to turn this into a Thecko thread so I'll just agree to disagree GTR. All will be revealed on Saturday anyway. Any takers on someone getting a drive through penalty for speeding whilst serving a drive through for speeding during a schedualed stop??????????? |

Onlooker I am only countering your logic with wishful thinking... no harm no foul
And I think you will be right with the drive thrus... why dont they just take a lap off the offenders, makes life much easier? |

Here's another one, letting the car down prior to fitting all four wheels and having to jack it up
Pitting for a flat tyre as a result of contact and then looking surprised when the car is bellowing smoke from the same corner as it heads up mountain strait, pitting again to flare the offending guard next lap and then ending up a lap down. GRM getting short changed/out maneuvered during the pit stop/SC period and Gary appearing on TV complete with lap chart and rule book Last edited by Onlooker; 7 Oct 2003 at 04:54. |

Leaving the 2nd car out on slicks despite rain, hail and snow bucketing down....
Front suspension failure from a team you may or may not have mentioned (VY might be better, who knows ) James Bond-style oil slick disbursement system fitted to cars #5, #6 and #19 #1 to have some uncorrectable problem, yet it is still able to lap near record times and finish in the lead Teams that dont pit when the safety car comes out on lap 25! |

Hows about the car that has a blown tyre, which the driver can hear is delaminating, yet in the interests of getting back to the pits, gets her up to warp speed, then discovers that they cant do the right-left thru Caltex Chase and ends up going off.... meanwhile the tyre has detonated, and taken the guard, and flapped about wildly, damaging suspension, brake hardware, the front spoiler, and anything else in the way.

I forsee an awful lot of debris on the track, most of it landing under the right front tyre, thus popping said tyre. Problem is definately not too much negative camber.
Channel 10 will go 75 ad breaks during the day, each falling 3sec before the safety car is brought onto the circuit. A Ford will somehow crash into another Ford. No matter what, the race will have the closest finish, the biggest crowd, and the smallest police presence in the history of the race |

The dumbest mistake will be Channel 10 letting Matthew White have the microphone.
