Support Race Thread 2016
To make it more simplistic, let's have this year's support races on single dedicated thread again rather than scattered all around in sub topics.
There are two Saturday morning support series again this year, but the Legends (Group C / 1949-196X) has been axed and moved to Le Mans Classic event, despite ACO's original winter promise to have three support races. So what we have are Ferrari Challenge Europe (last previously appeared in 2011 and 2013) and debuting Road to Le Mans, part of the Michelin GT3 Cup, running oneoff LMP3 in addition to GT3 cars. Some details are still missing but will update when possible. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Schedule Wednesday 2:30PM - 6:30PM : Scrutineering + Administrative & Technical Checks Thursday 10:00AM - 10:45AM : Free Practice I Thursday 11:30AM - 12:15PM : Free Practice II Thursday 4:00PM - 5:00PM : Qualifying Saturday 10:05AM - 10:50AM : Support Race (45 Minutes) Entry List ??? Great to see Jan Lammers back on track. Let's hope he's back in the 24 next year.

They tried to field LMP2 (wasn't it P2 and not GTE?) for this year already.
Anyhow there is now a likelihood that Eurosport will show the Road to Le Mans instead of Ferrari Challenge after all (at least in certain territories) - will continue to follow the situation! http://tentenths.com/forum/showpost....&postcount=477 |

I know GT3 is a controversial 'formula' for some (being not a formula at all), and I have mixed feelings about it too, but I am really looking forward to seeing some different, quick GT cars at La Sarthe. Lambo, McLaren, Merc, BMW, Audi. And a return for an Aston V12. Lovely sounds!

It's really no different "formula" to LMGTE nowadays, except it has more models... so I rather even see it
RLM will provide audio coverage for the race but unsure about practice and qualifying. Will follow the Eurosport situation. Last edited by Deleted; 31 May 2016 at 13:41. |

Slightly off topic (already!), but the interesting thing about BoP is that rather than have a spec car we have a spec lap time. Maybe if this idea had caught on earlier we wouldn't have a load of spec single seaters boring us to death everywhere. 'Here's the lap time window, do what you want to get there' is a different answer to a similar question. In theory it should act as a cost cap as well, because there should be no point in spending beyond a certain point since no performance gain would be allowed beyond that point. Doesn't work like that, of course. And it is a hideous abomination to the purist... |

It's impossible to control a spec lap time.
There must be an error on this PDF (dated today 31/05) as it makes it seem like the LMP3/GT3 race is 70 minutes now? http://www.gt3lemanscup.com/assets/1...0V1_74daa8.pdf |

I knew the track will stay closed on wednesday->thursdaynight to allow more track action on thursday. But this is the first time that I see that the first track action is at 10am. It's a lot (maybe a bit to much?) of Ferrari Challenge on the thursday.
Looking forward to the "Road to Le Mans" race. A Le Mans return for Mercedes, will they keep 4 wheels on the ground this time? |

Maybe a return of Merc in terms of up-to-date models, but they've had plenty of old museum pieces in the Legends races in last few years
Yeah we discussed the early Thursday morning a little bit earlier on the other thread and came up that it must be the French lunch break that "forces" the Ferraris to start so early though it's not like there isn't spare room, particularly on Wednesday before the FP for the 24 Hours. |

The early start will be welcome I think on Thursday. There's been a lot of sitting around drinking beer waiting until 4pm in recent years.
Now I can sit around drinking beer watching cars on track! |

Coulthard seat fitting UA's Onroak LMP3 at Ricard yesterday. And I believe there are some TBAs on their seats still. So... Maybe he isn't so hostile for LM return (ish) after all.

Normal GT3 Cup races are live streamed here, but not sure if the LM support race is going to be streamed here if Eurosport has rights.

We'll have official confirmation of the likely Eurosport broadcast within couple of hours (once the international Saturday schedules get updated)
I've been trying to look for Motors schedule if the Ferrari race would somehow be there, but their site seems to have been stuck in time for a while now with old PDFs. Not to mention giving certificate errors, which you can bypass alright, but still |
