Banquet 400
The Nextel Cup caravan goes to Kansas Speedway for the Banquet 400. Jeff Gordon and Ryan Newman have been dominant racers on this track. The race has been run on the 1.5-mile oval only three times and Gordon won the first two before finishing fifth last year. As a rookie, Newman finished second to Gordon in 2001. The following year he finished second again. Last year, Newman led the final 28 laps en route to a 0.863-second victory.

And winning the Busch race.
Although I was disapointed when he spun Stewart round and out. |

I feel bad for Nemechek, I think he felt pretty bad about bumping Stewart. I think he probally would have rather raced him and won than wrecked him and won. I wonder what the deal was with Mike Bliss and Stewart. They got into a fight after the race too. Is Bliss mad that he lost his ride at Joe Gibbs Racing so he's taking it out on another JGR driver?

Well him and Tony were racing hard and he just moved across when Joe had a bit of the inside.
I wanted Tony to win but at least Joe apoligised unlike Robby. |

Congrats to "Front Row" Joe on sweeping the weekend. It's good to see the Army team in victory lane finally.

Congrats Joe on a heck of a weekend. Couldn't ask for much better. Also glad Elliot Sadler had a good race after his filp at Dega.

I attended these races and they were both good ones. Nemechek got some boos in the pre-race driver introductions for his incident with Stewart in the Busch race. I, along with most of the crowd, was pulling for Ricky Rudd in the closing laps. I couldn't believe he closed up the gap that quickly. It didn't look like anybody was going to be able to touch Joe on the last restart.

One other thing, I got to talk to legendary NASCAR driver, David Pearson, at an autograph session on Friday. I asked him if he got the road-racers respect for his 1974 IROC performance (he finished 4th out of 12 drivers in Porsche Carreras and all four races were road course races). He said that he liked road racing. He also said he always seemed to get a bad car in IROC.

Jayski had this article from the Kansas City Star about Jerry Nadeau and his reaction to Nemechek winning. Nadeau drove the car up until he suffered severe injuries practicing at Richmond last year.
