What was the car used by Hulme in the beginning of the 1966 season with a Climax FPF 2.7 engine, before his new car with Repco power was ready ?
Some sources talks about a BT 11, others a BT 22. In both cases, the chassis number quoted is F1-1-64, which was the BT 11 used by Black Jack in 1965. So was Hulme’s car the very same one, or was it heavily modified, justifying a new type number, or was it a brand new car with an old chassis number ? Testa Rossa |

My books say BT22 but the expert is Paul Sheldon who writes the excellent Record of Grand Prix and Voiturette racing series.

For reasons to do more with customs cachets and little to do with reality, the chassis number 'F1/1/64' which was initially applied the BT11 that Brabham used in 1964 & 1965. The BT22 was an insurance policy to ensure that BRO was able to put something on the grid and therefore collect its starting money regardless. Why recycle the old number? You see, there was still all that paperwork at the shop, and it was powered by a Climax engine and so rather than re-do all that work....
