1966 Indy 500
A friend has just purchased the ex Gordon Johncock, Gerhardt Ford R that finished 4th in the 1966 Indy 500. I'm looking for any information on the car and any pictures of it in it's original livery.
Does anyone have any info? |

Get in touch with the musuem at the Speedway. They have archives of all of the photos (millions!) taken by their hired photographers over the years. If you can't get there, the folks there will do a search for you. I was there a couple of years ago and bought 8x10's of Sam Hanks and his winning car in '57 (the only lay down roadster to win). The 8x10's are in the range of $12 to $15 I think. They go up to at least 16x20's.
I remember GJ before he got to Indy. He used to race supermodifieds on the 1/2 mile banked oval at my hometown of Toledo, OH. Very fast, but always in control. Dan Gurney signed a photo in a book for me last year of he and GJ. He said Gordy would drive into a corner deeper than anybody! Last edited by flatlander_48; 28 Jun 2003 at 15:39. |
