Slightly OT...or Maybe not: Ferrari Red?

Hey folks,

I usually lurk around here reading up on tips on photography and have posted a couple of pics. I wasn't sure if a modelling question really fits here, but I figure model kit building is an art form in itself, so who knows.

Anyways, I've got model kit examples of every Ferrari Formula 1 racer since 1997. I eventually will get to build them, but I take a good long time planning them and getting all the supplies I need before I get to them. My biggest question is with regards to the red used by Ferrari in those years. From what I've seen in pics, it seems like Ferrari used three shades in that time:

1. A bright, almost flourescent red for the F310B, the F300, and the F399.

2. A bright red with a somewhat orangey tint for the F1-2000 and the F2001.

3. And a more traditional, but very vibrant red for the F2002 and F2003-GA.

If there are any model builders out there with good ideas for what to use to simulate those colors would be helpful.

Thanks,

Joe

Volkswagen Mars Red is a good general match for Ferrari "Rosso Marlboro".

jj2728 has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
well i've been building 1/43 kits for some time and have had numerous discusions with other modellers on a true ferrari red and the one thing that we can all agree on to some extent is to disagree....i think that for any ferrari post traditional red, read:MARLBORO red you can use a TAMIYA colour TS-49 BRIGHT RED....i've had success with it, but remember to use a white primer, neither gray or any other primer shade other than white will bring out in subsequent coats the vibrancy of the red....
that said, if you have any older ferraris read:PRE-MARLBORO red then the TAMIYA color to use is TS-08 ITALIAN RED...remember though that these are MY personal preferences as i have always been partial to TAMIYA paints...there are many other shades of red on the market and maybe someone else can assist you with those....lately i've been trying out a new technique with the more traditional ferrari red PRE-MARLBORO and that involves painting the initial enamel coat with the BRIGHT RED then my subsequent coats with the ITALIAN RED...after looking at the other ferraris in my collection, this combination seems to have the correct hue....then again maybe it's just my eyes!...good luck!....
