(Aus TV) Channel Ten F1 TV Coverage
Channel Ten's F1 TV Coverage is not good enough. I would like to see Channel Ten have TV Coverage of every Session of every GP Live. But I know that is never going to happen. Being realistic the following is how the F1 TV Coverage could easily be: (next year)
Australia* China, Malasia and Japan** Brazil, USA, Canada, Mexico*** Europeon Rounds**** *3 Day TV Coverage (All Sessions Live) **3 day TV Coverage (Live & Delayed) Friday=Practice 1 (Delayed) + Practice 2 (Live) Saturday=Practice 1 (Delayed) + Practice 2 (Delayed) + Qualifying 1 (Live) Sunday=Qualifying 2 (Delayed) + Race (Live) ***Qualifying and Race TV Coverage (Live & Delayed) Saturday=Qualifying 1 (Live) Sunday=Qualifying 2 (Delayed) + Race (Live) ****Race TV Coverage (Delayed) |

*bump*
Network Ten sucked in the F1 supporters by promising they would do things differently to Channel 9. As far as I can tell, the only thing they really do different is to not use the ITV commentators at the Oz GP, but instead use Bill Woods and Neil Crompton, who between them have driven precisely zero Grands Prix. As far as I understand the package Network Ten signed up to with FOM, Ten has the rights to show the practice and qualifying sessions. However, I believe that Ten's strategy is to package the practice sessions into a highlights package for RPM (Sunday afternoons) and the qualification sessions into a preview package for the GP. A year or so ago, Network Ten were showing most of the European GPs at a reasonable hour of the night. This season, however, has seen many GP coverage start at 11.00pm-11.30pm, which means the race doesn't normally start until practically midnight, by the time Billy and Neil have finished their preview. Obviously, they take the average Formula One fan for an idiot, as anyone with internet access can simply access live timings and follow the race online, or else get to a pub in Melbourne where the race is shown live. Unfortunately, if the Chinese round of Formula One coincides with a V8 Supercar race and is followed by a "marquee" Ten program, such as Big Brother or Idol, Ten are obliged to show the race, but they'll squeeze its coverage - so much so that last year's inaugural round was cut short by Ten as they edited laps out of the race. Unlike ITV throwing to an ad break at Imola earlier this season, I do not recall much outrage against Ten for doing this. Mabs, your proposed coverage is clearly achievable, but Network Ten will never take to it. |

I think Ten could probably do a bit better job.
But I am thankful that we have them giving F1 a fair shake in the free-to-air TV stakes. It could be a lot worse ........! |

I know Foxtel costs money, but for the motorsport it is definatley worth it. Ten don't show anywhere near enough comitment to motorsport (I want things live, none of this avoid the result and pretend it is live rubish). |

I think Speed Channel does a very good job. After reading all of your complaints about ITV etc etc, I think pay is the way to go.

I like channel 10's coverage, albeit delayed. Not having live access to coverage of GP's in Aust, I watch the live timing from Formula1.com and listen to the internet radio broadcast from BBC Five Live when bernie let us.
This usally makes it harder to watch the delayed telecast when I already know the result. Id be interested if anyone has any other better options for live coverage. |

How many times have the beeb broadcast F1 on the internet? I didn't think they had done any because they didn't have the rights to broadcast the interenet coverage?

If you look hard enough, you'll find torrent sites with Qualifying sessions as well as races. Sizes vary from 700 to 1500 meg though so it's not for dial up people..
