FIA Gt3 2006

Was wondering, as I've heard both things now; will they run as a support series to the FIAGT? Or will they be another class at the track at the same time?

Interest in this series seems higher than expected; from what I've heard and read so far:

3x GLPK Corvette Z06
3x BMS Aston DBRS9
3x Cirtek Aston DBRS9
3x Larbre Dodge Competition Coupe
3x Reiter Lambo Gallardo
3x Venturi Héritage
3x Giudici Maserati Trofeo

Plus the GT3's and 360 Challenges. I'm almost starting to think it actually has potential...

Am I right in thinking that cars such as this are much easier to fund with pay drivers?

Currently Porsche is not interested to run cars in this series because they have their own Cup series. I know the concept that the GT3 have their own 60 minute race and that every manufacturer must race six cars by two teams.

From what I've read the GT3s will support the main GT championship, with two 1-hour races over the weekend in 2006.
I like the sound of the cars being equalled out by power-to-weight ratio, rather than restricting the engines. This could be good!

What is the plan for Spa? would be ace if all 3 classes (4 if you count G2) raced together.

No 100% information yet. But if i must bet i would they that the five 2006 GT3 races are Silverstone, Brno, Oschersleben, Magny-Cours and Imola (They need the GT3 paydriver to finance some of the 24h cars )

Im really looking forward to this championship, I was a bit skeptical at first but recently there seems to have been lots of news surrounding the series, and good news rather than bad. Will be very interesting to see how this series takes off in 2006.

The most important point of this series is that this concept brings in the manufacturers and can help some of the teams to earn money with the GT3s.

there have been 18 teams that have expressed interest so far. As Bramzel stated above, those are the big teams. JMB and GPC are the two other major teams expressing interest/plans to run in the series. there are some other smaller teams as well. But so far, its looking like this championship will be very interesting with much variety.

The problem I see here is that in that list are 5 manufacturers that need to have a second team in order to enter the series. The two-team rule may make it very tough for some manufacturers like Venturi to enter the series; no offense intended, but they don't have the sterling automotive record that cars like Viper and Corvette do.

I've frequently been sceptical of the GT3 class since it's introduction into the British GT championship in the form of the Cup Class in 2003. The cars just seemed lame (not to mention far too quiet!) compared to the higher classes. However, with the list of cars and teams in this thread, it's looking quite optimistic! Plus I like the thought of it being a support race. I hope the GT3's would race at Spa - if nothing else it would bump up the grid numbers, which could make for entertaining racing when the GT1's and GT2's have to make their way around many more slower cars in the middle of the night...
