Jaguar and Coulthard
I may have missed this in previous threads, but I'd be interested in knowing why these two wouldn't be very good for eachother next year.
Don't you think? |

If Jaguar are to lose Webber I think DC would be a great fit for them. He's a very skillful racing driver (despite what some bashers would have you believe) and would bring buckets of experience and development potential. It would be a bit of a step down for DC, but if he still wants to race I think Jag can keep him in reasonable fighting trim.

Perhaps, but Webber has dropped heavy, heavy hints that Wirdheim will take his seat next year, and I doubt Jaguar will junk Klien and his Red Bull money (though, with Jag, you can never tell...).

i Have long been convinced that DC would go to Jag, And what with JPM going to McLaren, Webber to Williams? DC would complete the circle if he went to the green team.

I'd rather see DC in at Toyota, where he will be able to give them the development lift they need...and dump Ralf out of the frame onto his expensive whiney A*** into oblivion

This rumour has been doing the rounds since JPM told everyone where his future was.DC will be at Jag next year filling Webbers seat.Webber will be at Williams with JV and Kimi will stay put.Button will stay with BAR next year and MS will race on.Alonso will stay put and Ralfie will be at Toyota.
If all of this falls into place next season may be the most competitve we have seen for a long long time. The Grumpy1 Last edited by grumpy1; 5 May 2004 at 22:12. |

Jag are going to be desperate for aq top grade racer if webber has to go,but why would they possibly want DC???
For goodness sake,he's not even a great development driver! Why would you want a car developed to 9/10ths of it's potential?LOL |

I'm a Coultard basher (as they are called here) and I too think its a great idea (and have said so for many months).
DC is'nt good enough IMO for a top seat, but he's still a very good driver, with level 1 team experience, and a PR dream. If Toyota or Jaguar dont grab him with both hands next season I will be amazed. |

I've always defended DC, because he's a great team player, has great developmental skills, and still shows good race pace. But his utter failure to grasp the one-lap qualifying system has been maddening, and IMHO, may just seal his fate in F1, I'm afraid.
Its been a year and a half, and he still can't come to grips with it... |

He would have to come to grips with a change in roles....my semi-worthless opinion he could pull it off and improve the future of jag. Another plus is his birthplace..... of course

If Jaguar do lose Webber then i think that DC's experience would be a bonus for the team as i don't like the idea of a team trying to be competitive with two novices such as Klien & Wirdheim. I think a team needs one experienced driver & Coulthard would fill that role brilliantly for Jaguar.

I think he'd be perfect for Jaguar or Toyota, and I believe it's where he'll be in 2005. His salary demands would be no problem for Toyota, and he'd bosot Jaguar's psonsorship potential immensely. He'd do a great job developing the car, and could probably get resutls as good as Webber's - maybe better.

Ive been surprised that there hasn't been more/any offers for David next year, especially knowing that he definetly doesn't have a seat for next year.
This Jaguar rumour has been around for a couple of years now, but there isn't any evidence to back this up even though they do seem good for each other. Ralf Schuamcher however who is half the driver David is has had offers form, his current team williams (although he wants more), Toyota and if you believe Willi Webber Renault. |

Not to anyones surprise, I agree with just about everyone here. Jaguar or Toyota would be a good fit for DC. The only problem i could potentially see would be his age. Although he would be bringing in almost 10 years of F1 experience, he's also what 33 34? I can see DC being in F1 for maybe 2-3 more years, which is kinda sad because i've always liked the guy even though he's not the best out there but just seems like a cool guy. And a hell of a team player.
But I think bringing him in would help move either team up the grid a place or two. |

Perhaps we are premature in assuming he will be replaced at MacMerc. West sponsorship will go away: maybe soon. Would you want Kimi representing YOUR company ?
Is Kimi even staying ? DC and his mgmt team are no fools. I suspect they already have something worked out. |

Jaguar Racing are looking to the future, both in terms of drivers and as a team. I'm not sure how DC would fit in to that.
