I think that in spirit it's the same that the new ALMS -American Le Mans Series-. Basically it's a change of the name.

yep IMSA was a great series but sadly it fell victim to the situation in the early 90's that all sportscar series fell into..no money,no manufacturers and no interest from spectators and TV stations..I didnt see alot of it but what I did see was great and to see geoff Brabham winning races was always good to see..he has since returned home to Australia and ran a BMW in super touring for a while until that team decided to quit the aussie series and now only competes in the long distance V8 supercar races ...
but the ALMS seems to have taken over sportscar racing not just in the states but almost worldwide ..so I dont think we will see the IMSA series back in action |

For those in the U.S. that remember those last days of IMSA. The series had never been as healthy until Andy whats his namme took it over and changed the formula to the now popular open cockpit cars. The last real year of IMSA Mazda had just come out with a 3 car factory team, Ford, Chevy, Nissan, Toyota, Jaguar. Sortscar racing had never been as healthy. He (Andy whats his name) f'd it up for all of us. Thanks Andy. Thanks Bill France for furthuring the split. You should stick to what you know. Rob Dyson, why don't you buy a Taurus and call it a Lincoln?

Elan-you are so wrong
Andy Evans did not take over IMSA until 1996. The Nissan,Mazda and Toyota efforts in IMSA were over by 93.

Hmm - just found this thread.
Leaving the controversies aside, I will agree that it was great racing, which we saw very little of on this side of the Atlantic. Anyone able to recommend a good IMSA retrospective video at all? |
