Kirk has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
A contract is a contract but ...

Just a thought:
Is there any chance of JPM joining McLaren before 2005? Suppose that Ferrari have the WDC and constructors title clinched early. Would that change things?

Raven should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I doubt it. They (McLaren) tried to prize him away for this season, but Williams will make sure JPM sees the season out before jumping ship.

...The same question could be asked of Ferrari - seeing as MS won the title so early in 2002 (and will this year) ...Why not let Badoer have a run in the car for a few races?

It might. However, I can't imagin DC being sacked after driving for the team for so many years.

McLaren will bounce back, although they're supposedly bouncing back for the past four years now...

Nah. He hasn't left already. He wants to race for Williams to the end of the year. Williams wants him to race till the end of the year.

Generally (i.e. almost always) drivers stay till the end and change after the season even if they know they are going.

Exactly. I don't see any reason why Montoya would leave early or why McLaren would drop Coulthard early.

The last time I can remember when this happened was in 1987 when Patrese joined Williams for the last race of the season (instead of the first of 1988) but in that case, Mansell was injured and Brabham agreed to release Patrese for that race.

Yeah, that change made sense. A seat was temporarily vacant due to Nigels unfortunate accident and it was used as an opportunity to settle Riccardo. So it made sense.

Now if, god forbid, Kimi or David were to be disabled for the last two races or so then de la Rosa or Wurz would likely step in rather than Juan jumping ship early. How times change.

I think JPM will just leave after the last race for Williams.. Firstly to get to know the new car/team/structure to prepare the next season, Secondly to leave with disappointment for what may be a poor 2004 season.

As Rafe is doing so badly at the moment, why would Williams allow JPM to leave early? After all, he's the only Williams driver taking the fight to Michael and Jenson.

In around about way there is some since in montoya going early it would keep his eyes of the 05 williams and williams could get in there replacenment early and like wise the macs would get there driver to work on next seasons car but somehow i cant see it happening like how many lawyers would it take to sort out those contracts

Being realistic Monty is going nowhere. McLaren are a bit usless at the mo but will improve at some point as they do. For now the best place for him to be is at Williams untill the end of the season. If Williams kicked him out early they would still have to pay his salary so where would the point of that be, having to pay the wages of Montoya and his replacement as well as looking a right fool like Jordan did not too long ago when they kicked out Frenzen. As for keeping his eyes off the '05 car I do not see it being an issue. Just don't show it to him. It's not as if it's sat in the corner of the garage with a cloth thrown over it. Williams are rich when it comes to testing. If they wanted to test '05 parts torwards the end of the season they have two test drivers to do just that and you've only got to not invite Montoya along for that day.
