Oddball car question - Norma MGN
In 1989 a French Firm, MGN, tried to make a 3.5 liter W12 engine. It was tested in the back of an AGS F1 car but never entered a Grand Prix. I have it that the last record of the engine was that it was used briefly in a Norma sports car. What kind of sports car and what mdoel was the Norma and how long (or little) did it last?

We have to ask the new french member, sportproto, who has connections with Norma... He should be back here soon, well I hope...
If not, I planned to pay a visit to the Norma site at FAye de Bretagne (near Nantes) ; I'll ask at this occasion. |

Thanks!
What I do know is that MGN stood for Moteurs Guy Negré and the three cylinder banks had 60' between them. |

Guy Negre worked also for Renault's F1 engine department.
He builded also an engine which used air instead of petrol... Last edited by FIRE; 15 Nov 2003 at 17:46. |

The MGN W12 actually appeared in a Norma at Le Mans in 1990- the car passed through scrutineering but then spent the rest of the weekend parked in the paddock because the team couldn't get the W12 to run properly- I don't think it ever appeared at another race.
The MGN wasn't the only unusual engine at LM that year. The other- which did at least run briefly in qualifying- was in American driver Paul Canary's Eagle. This was ex-Corvette GTP Lola chassis powered by a V8 from an American engine builder Eagle Performance Technology- a 10.2 litre V8.... Last edited by KA; 16 Nov 2003 at 12:46. |

The MGN Norma M6 never ran in any races ! This car was a real C group, very beautiful like all Norma cars, and it should have been fitted at Le Mans 1990 with a classic Ford Cosworth V8 but Norbert Santos, Norma's boss, finally choose to run with this m....(Frenchies will understand). He's still have regrets about his mistake. The M6 bodywork is now proudly hanging on to the Norma's workshop floor at St Pé de Bigorre in Pyrénées. A real shame !

For sure, it won't be ALMS : too expensive ! But perhaps a LMP2 car for ELMS & Le Mans. For now, Norma will announce tomorrow (scoop) a 3 liters version for the new Norma M20, fitted for European CN championships or Hillclimbing. The first engine will be the classic BMW M3 : 400 ch. for 600 Kgs, the terrific M20 aero and look, a stronger chassis. The step forward the LMP2 won't be easy to imagine !!!

I don't know Dutch, but I can offer the two english letter A & P, in that order.
That group C car is really great looking! Too bad it got stuck with a mad scientist's version of an engine. |

On the ALMS possibility for Norma...
Isn't Team Sezio the North American distributor for the Norma creations???? They were the LM team that "Competed" (and I use that term loosely, believe me) at Le Mans last June.... Why wouldn't they campaing a new Norma creation, with hopes of "distributing" others if the chassis proves to be a good one??? |

Sezio Florida has stopped its racing activities.
But Edouard Sezionale himself will promote and distribute the Norma M20 car in USA. That new car is getting a real success in France and in Europe for purchasers can fit any 1,5 to 3 liters engine or motorbike engine with the chassis. For example, the Norma M20/CN Honda 2 liters leads all Radical (turbo or not) cars at the Magny-Cours 4000 kms during the practices at its first race ! |
