US F1, Campos Grand Prix and Manor F1 - The silence is deafening
Anyone else worried that in 48 hours we haven't heard a squeak out of these 3?
USF1 stood up months ago before the cap amount was proposed, but the other 2 signed up based on the 40mil cap. I'm very surprised we haven't heard anything from any of them. Not a 'not what we signed up for', or 'we need to review', not even a 'we can't comment at this time'. Not a peep. Nothing from the other wanna-be's either. And while we are on it, whats with the vagueness of the FIA-FOTO announcement? "Umm, we will 'help' new teams, possible run a 3rd car, ummm, stuff like that". What the hell does that mean? And then the rules for next year. Re-fuelling? KER's? Extra grunt for the Cossie? Hate to say it, but without firm details, I'm not sure what was agreed, if anything.... |

Perhaps it's because they are having second thoughts ?
http://www.crash.net/f1/news/148935/...ld_change.html And FIA-FOTA being "vague" is nothing new. |

Manor look likely to pick up Virgin sponsorship (possibly even naming rights), and Chad Hurley was a guest at Silverstone, with Peter Windsor's replacement as press conference host not a coincidence and permanent

"Hey guys, come and join our party, it will only cost 40 million".
"Thats it, there, just sign here..." - 2 months later - "Oh sorry, you know that budget cap thingy, well there is no other way to say this except, its gone for a burton, so its now going to cost 80 million, still want to party with the big boys?" |

More room for a 'little one' ? Or just another couple of empty slots on the grid ?
"The company posted a loss of ¥461bn (£2.91bn/$4.8bn) for the last financial year and forecasts a further loss of ¥850bn for this year. Its worldwide vehicle production fell by 38% last month, to 501,685." Guess who ? Here's a clue. 'We haven't won a race yet'. |

This is why FOTA either falls into line with the FIA or goes its own way.
The Mosley/Montezemolo fracas is what the whole thing was about, not the budget caps or technical change. So if Luca wants the political games to stop he apologises to Mosleyand the two focus on building the sport. If not FOTA should just leave, any members who want to race with the FIA join Max. |

Still it's a matter of survival, Mosley or FOTA. I would like to remember that even if Mosley doesn't stand for re-election, he wants to put someone there that will keep his influence present. |

The FOTA teams think that would be Jean Todt, despite his previous connection with Ferrari, which is why they don't want him.

pretty much the same as the prodrive/customer car debacle - get them to commit, change a fundemental rule that stops them being able to enter, then turn them away next time they try saying 'they were unreliable last time'
Almost as if the big players don't want to share the tv revenue. No team has been allowed to join the party since 1991 (jordan*) without 1. a car manufacturer behind them 2. having to buy one of the existing franchises or 3. having to spend so much that they were a. At the back of the grid & b. bankrupt within 2 years. * both sauber & stewart had help from merc & ford respectively. the man who would be king & bernie himself are busom buddies while max & bernie are two sides of the same coin. Conspiricy? |

FOTA are not happy about the Manor team getting a place on the grid ... alleging a 'conflict of interest'

Back to topic, from what I could learn Campos are going on as well; if they find extra money they'l spend it; otherwise, they have already gained a good excuse for possibily tough start next year

Windsor has constantly said that the cap does not influence the USF1 entry, further, they are/were very advanced on their designs, including CFD analysis.
Their budgeting is done and the cap would have meant they would adjust it (of course this could be crap, because they may not actually HAVE the budget... it is just done... We are running on $80 mil, we only have $10 but we hope something comes along!) |

How Manor managed to finish ahead of Lola, N-Technology, Prodrive etc. is a mystery.

The second is that Max's sidekick, Alan Donnelly, is alleged to have doing the rounds on behalf of Manor. If correct, this suggests a lack of judgement on John Booth's part, which would surprise me, or that Donnelly's alleged actions were carried out without John's prior knowledge and consent. Maybe Wirth was involved. |

No, nothing.
It's pretty quiet all round. No news is good news? For once this is a worry. The Mosley/Montezemolo thing has also gone very quiet. |
