Made From Unobtainium

A friend of ours has just bought himself a WW2 Jeep and is trying to source an original battery. Strangely, it's proving difficult! We're trying to help by scouring the 'net for him (He's not a computer man!) and have come up with a few useful leads- and I thought Granada parts were getting hard to find!!
So, what has proved to be the hardest part to find for any of your cars?

'Bottle, Aly and Janice will probably be able to tell you about the scavenger hunt we once had to carry out in an effort to find a rotor arm for the Volkswagen Variant at Newcastle-under-Lyme.

The trouble was - Type 3 rotor arms just didn't burn out, so no one had them in stock. I eventually had to rig a makeshift one together using bits found in the ignition of a VW 412 found in a scrapyard, and propping the engine cover open with a firmly-jammed screwdriver in the mechanism, because the 412 distributor cap was that much taller than the proper bit.

Why can't he use the original leads? tee hee!

Sorry bluebottle, I couldn't resist. How about some of the Off Road clubs, or have a scan down the list of attendees at last years Bromley Pageant or Beaulieu Festival? There are plenty of WW2 vehicle clubs who may know, but I guess your friend is already a member of at least one. If not, why not?

The only parts I've had trouble with were RS wings for my trusty but rusty Mk1 Escort. Best price I found for old stock genuine panels was £225 each!

I still bought them though!

We've sent him a whole list of contacts (-opening the door for another cheap joke.....) and we'll let you know how he gets on!
This is the first military vehicle he's bought (probably not the last!) but he has a few other cars of similar vintage to keep him occupied so he probably belongs to several clubs!

Why would he want an original battery, surely it would be flat by now, best get a new one.

You can get the original type rebuilt but I would not know who could do it in England, But I know a company in Sydney that might be able to do it!
