Bobby Rahal to be fired!!!!
Bobby Rahal to Get Sacked? August 20 10:15
F1i.com's sources suggest that Bobby Rahal will leave Jaguar Racing this week Tensions have never run higher between Jaguar boss Bobby Rahal and Ford's Premier Performance Division CEO Niki Lauda following the news that Rahal had tried to sell Eddie Irvine to Jordan for the remainder of the season without the Austrian's knowledge. It now appears that the American is heading for the sack because the two cannot work together harmoniously. A meeting on Thursday, chaired by Dr Wolfgang Reitzle, will officially decide Rahal's future with the team. Unofficially, though, his sacking is almost certain. The two Jaguar men seem to have widely varying ideas on strategy for the team and appear to be stepping on each other toes as Rahal tries to oversee the day to day running of the team while Lauda oversees Ford's Premier Performance Division, which includes Jaguar Racing. The two have clashed, but claimed that the team was always going forward as a result. The team has just five points to its name, though, and is eighth in the Constructors championship despite having a much larger budget than many of those in front. In May, Niki Lauda denied there was any crossover in positions when he said: "My role is very simple. The Performance Automotive Group looks after Ford's luxury brands (Volvo, Lincoln, Aston Martin, Land Rover and Jaguar) and this group is headed up by Dr Wolfgang Reitzle. The motorsport arm of this group is the Premier Performance Division, and that's where my responsibility lies. Jaguar is the only brand currently active and my role aims to bring Jaguar Racing, Cosworth and Pi Electronics into closer synergy. Contrary to the rubbish that is sometimes written, I am not in charge of Jaguar Racing - that's Bobby's job, not mine." Rumours of tension between the two started as early as March this year, though, and the Prost driver Luciano Burti, then driving for Jaguar, played down any problems. "These rumours about an internal rift between Lauda and Rahal are just that - rumours," Burti said at a press conference before the Brazilian Grand Prix. "Bobby Rahal is the CEO at Jaguar Racing and Niki Lauda is CEO of three companies - including Jaguar Racing. I saw them talking to each other for three hours. To speak to someone for three hours, you must have a good relationship. They're working together to improve this team." However, the revelation in Hungary that Rahal, without Lauda's knowledge, had tried to sell Eddie Irvine to the Jordan team as a replacement for the sacked Heinz-Harald Frentzen, may be the final nail in Rahal's coffin. Neil Ressler stepped down from the same position after just one year in the job at the end of 2000 to make way for Rahal. At the time Ressler stated his belief that he had found the man to take Jaguar Racing to the very top of Formula 1. Quite who will take this job on, if not Lauda himself, is a moot issue. Your thoughts on this issue? |

There is nothing worse than working with someone that you can't get along with (anyone else had that experience?). If it is true that the friction between Lauda and Rahal is getting worse, the smart thing to do would be put an end to it as soon as possible - the team will suffer if they don't (and maybe careers as well).

I am a Lauda fan, but maybe he tried to get to involved, thats the only way i can see this rift happenenin, by Lauda getting to involved with the running of the team.
If Lauda did run the team though, i don't think it would hurt. |

I think Bobby is great for Jaguar. If he goes, I cannot at all see it being a positive thing. If there is friction between Lauda and Rahal, get rid of Lauda. Sure Lauda was a great driver, but Rahal is the better businessman, has better contacts with Ford and has been running motor racing teams for years now. One can see the improvements at Jag since his appointment. Niki can run an airline, but I'm not sure about an f1 team.

Bobby leaving the team would be very sad for Formula One, as he's a great, laid-back guy, but if he was to go, it would also be no surprise to me anyway. Rahal and Lauda were always bound to clash at some stage, and Lauda would always come out on top.
However, Lauda may be just the right tonic to whip Jaguar into shape, like he did with Ferrari in 1974/75 (the similarities between Lauda and TGF concerning Ferrari are startling.) His single-mindedness towards the task at hand is absolute. He wants only one thing: WINNING. Now not saying Rahal isn't doing a bad job, but perhaps Lauda might be a better option simply because of his track record concerning whipping teams into shape. |

Lauda was a great driver but I was puzzled when he was orginally hired by Jaguar. Jaguar doesn't need a two-headed monster and I was concerned that a situation like this would eventually crop up. Niki needs back off, assume a consultant role and let Bobby run the team. Bobby has the experience running a team and he was at Jaguar before Lauda.

There is too much friction within the Jaguar racing team...First of all we have Eddie spouting his mouth all over the place..Then this situation with Bobby Rahal and Eddie Jordan, Lauda is Bobby's boss so Mr Rahal needs to be careful..Apart from anything else how does this make Eddie feel? You know the old saying " Many a true word spoken in jest"
Whatever...Forza Ferrari! |

Rahal has denied that he made a serious offer to Eddie Jordan. And I agree that if he leaves, it would be seriously bad news for Jaguar. Last year there was enough upheaval at Jaguar and it obviously didn't do the team any favours - the last thing they need is more of the same this season.

Just when Jag's going places too. It IS weird that they're both there, mind. Why?? What Jag needs is a visionary head รก la Frank Williams, Dennis the Meneace, EJ. I do think they've got the drivers and the potential, but to sack BR on such a short term thing is simply ridiculous. RalfWoman, I'm another to add to your list! (no, not THAT list. Dirty! )

Jaguar f1 looks like it is in some major probs>
- The legal probs in america between ford and firestone - Cutting back the Ford workforce - Works engines to Arrows in 2002 - Irvine sooting his mouth off all the time - A car that does not work well - the problems with Bobby and Rahal & Lauda. They should be engine suppliers only. |

I agree with all but your first two points. Ford has been in motorsports since 1901. They've seen downturns, legal problems and layoffs before. It's all a part of the economic cycle, and has not discouraged Ford's racing efforts in the past.
Your final points that have to do with their F1 woes are more apt. Ford is good for F1 and vice versa, for several reasons. |
