I stated in another thread that last year and the year before, we had "rent-a-champs".
Craville disgraced the No.1 last year and I fear Kenny will do the same this year. Is Rossi the next Mick, will he dominate for years - or will someone else come along. Your thought... |

valentino rossi is valentini rossi - 2 world titles while mick doohan was racing.......although one would think that if someone could win a couple of 500 titles in a row from the current crop of riders, it would probably be valentino.......

Ueda always excites me in the 125s
Katoh and Melandri are about the only riders with big potential in 250s as most have gone on to 500s already. |

For the future you just have to look at Rossi's track record.
125cc Champ 1997 250cc Champ 1999 500cc Champ 2001 ? On current form and his past of year 1 get used to the bike , year 2 win the title speaks for itself. |

The next Doohan,
Of the known riders, I would say Rossi had the best chance. But not just because of a two year itch or his undoubted riding talent. He had the fortune to inheret the masters clothes, in the form of the Honda and the team and team manager that Mick had. Jeremy Burgess knows how to provide a winning bike. He did it for Gardner, he did it for Doohan. But it is far too early to tell. It will depend on Valentino developing the mental strengths and race craft of Mick. This was the real defining difference between himself and the other contenders. |

Whether there is a pattern or not, I think Rossi will win this year anyway. Mind you this time he won't move up a category the following year.

As far as Criville and Roberts disgracing the number one plates. That is a very harsh word and you use it very openly. Roberts is the only rider out there with the exception of Rossi who can win a world title.
He has the speed, concentration, and brain to win titles. And on the slowest factory V4. Criville also has the speed but HRC is so obsessed with Rossi that the development of the NSR is going his 250 style way. Criville could ride the bike like Mick and we may be seeing him lose his way a bit with the setup as he has to take the lead with design changes. Rossi will win this year I have no doubt but please give Kenny some credit for winning on the slowest factory bike out there and having more balls than any of them. As for nobody exciting in the other classes, mate you really have no bloody idea! |
