Danielsun should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I've just created a similar topic in the F1 Forum, but the original idea was, of course, for Touring Cars. Who would you put into which cars in a Touring Car Championship.

Remember that I don't care about the cars being the quickest (otherwise everyone would be in Mondeos), but which drivers were/are best in their day and in which car would they most be allowed to shine? Go back in time as far as you want - but make sure the younguns like myself can remember them!!

For instance, in the best ever Touring Car (yes, you know), I'd put probably place Dick Johnson and Andy Rouse. Or then there's the 4-wheel-drive challenger from Invader's new favourite marque, Audi. In the A4 quattro I'd love to have seen Frank Biela and Yvan Muller as team mates in these cars.

Who would you put where?

I'd put Wayne Wakefield and a Wayne Wakefield Clone in the current HRT car

Ford: Texaco WTCC cars of 1987 with DJ and the Grouse Rouse driving. For something interesting we could nominate the Capri and stick in Peter Mallett...

Audi: unquestionably MULLER!! and Frank Biela in the 1996 BTCC A4.

BMW: Would have to be the 1993 Schnitzer cars with Smokin' Jo and Paul Morris wheeling them. Or those two drivers in an E30 M3. With Frank Sytner as team manager!!

GM: Vectra or Cavalier? That is the question. Probably Cavalier. And driving it? CLELAND!! and Cam McLean, seeing as they teamed up so well at Bathurst last year. Or in the V8s, it would have to be an HRT VT in the hands of Mark Skaife and Paul Radisich. Hmmm...

Alfa: I'd go for something interestinghere: Tarquini and Kristensen to carry on as teammates in a 156 from the Italian Championship.

Volvo: No questions there: The Jim and Rickard show in their 1998 Bathurst-winning S40. Or for good measure, Robbie Francevic in his old Turbo...

Renault: This is a tough one. I'd go for Plato and Russell Spence - nah, WILL HOY!! in the 1998 car.

Oh... I forgot Nissan. Shame, eh?

Nissan: I know it's doubling up, but I'd have to reunite Skaifey and Richo in the almighty Godzilla R32 GTR from 1992. Just imagine the 4WD battles between Audi and Nissan. Fascinating...

Peter Brock and JC in the 95 Cav.....obviously.

Or Steven Richards and Cam McLean in a 94 Coke BMW.

Or Soperman and Alan Grice in a Sierra Cosworth.

Or Yvan Muller and Jason Plato in a 2001 Astra Coupe (with no team orders until late in the season....)

Or Rickard and Jimbo in an 850 at the Mountain.

Or Matt Neal and David Leslie in a Sainsbury's shopping trolley.

Or Patrick Watts and Julian Bailey in a mincing machine.

So you mean they weren't driving them this season? You know, I could swear their respective machinery looked like shopping trollies.

Guess it's just a case of ugly wheels for ugly faces!!

On a serious note, I would stick the R&R Volvo Show in an S40; better looking car. And what about Muller and Plato in an HRT VT Commodore?

Gricey in a Sierra? Wot, no VL Commodore with a chicken on the bonnet? And Win Percy as teammate?

Interesting selection there, BBTC...

By the way, does the other Froggie mob, Peugeot, get a nod in this? I'll leave it to the imagination for that one...

Peugeot? Such a great choice of drivers too. Robb Gravett, Eugene O'Brien, Patrick Watts.

Just a 1-car entry for the other Frenchie squad and it would be Patrick Watts in the 406 in which he competed in the first couple of races of last season's ASTC.

The Lakeside and Oran Park meetings provided some of the best action seen in the Championship for years and it's a shame the team couldn't come up with the funds to do the entire season for him. Would have gone to the wire!!

And as a Privateer entry, Robb Gravett in his early 1990s 405. Craig always said he liked Banger racing!!

If we're talking Pugs then surely it has to be Aiello in the STW 406.

Jim Richards and Rickard Rydell in the 1998 Volvo S40
Jim Richards and Mark Skaife in the 1990/1/2 Nissan GT-R
Jim Richards in the BMW 635CSi

Anyone else notice a pattern in that?

Daniel, good to see someone else also remembers who Francevic is. Guess I'll add that to my list too, with Jim Richards driving of course.

To actually mention someone else for a change...hang on, before that the 1994 Gibson Motorsport Commodore driven by Skaife and Richards..could have almost done Bathurst 1000 on 3 stops.

To continue...Peugeot would be Watts driving in ASTC. Those races at Oran Park were some of the best I've seen.

Ford would have to be the Sierra Cosworth built by Dick Johnson Racing and driven by just about anyone as it could be everycar except the GT-R.

Hang on there, elephino, I think I'm just about to unravel your pattern puzzle...

Redshoes, I'll unfortunately have to agree with you on the Peugeot issue: Aiello was quite simply the best driver out there in the good ole STW Cup 406. So is that Patrick Watts and Laurant in what BAR wanted: two different liveries on their cars!!

Cleland and Rydell with the '98 and Bathurst Volvo S40 would do it for me but even in a future Volvo racer it won't happen

No matter who Dick teams up with Radisich, this will be the combination to beat. After Paul's recent form - and the undoubted straighline speed of the Shell cars - this will be the team to beat at Bathurst.

Jason Bright, of course, would only help the cause...
