Stopping windscreens misting
Hi racing at brands this weekend and it looks like a wet one. Last time I was out in the rain I couldn't see anything through the screen due to misting.
Any thoughts on best thing to prevent it Thanks Mark |

The best combination is Rain X on the outside of the screen and on the inside a rag.If you cannot reach the screen the rag needs to be on a stick!
It is the only solution that definitely works when the heater is stripped out in old cars. |

You can use the anti fog stuff that is used on motor cycle visors, as us divers know human spit does the same thing !!!!! |

I have rigged up a little 12v car heater on one of my cars and fixed it into the screen vent opening, seems to work OK.

I used Rain-X on the outside and neat washing-up liquid wiped on the inside which did the trick.

The simplest answer is to get on the car dry.

If you clean the screen down well, then buff the inside with some fairy liquid/dish soap on a paper towel, you'll have to work at it to get it a very thin layer, but it stops 90% of misting.
We have the same issue with a car that tends to get a lot of water inside (spaceframe and stream crossings/2ft deep puddles don't go too well), and that solves most of it. |

Cut a potato in half and rub it all over the screen!
(it will either work or someone has well and truly pulled my leg!) |

How about giving one of the rear screen demister kits a go?
http://www.frostfighter.com/clear-vi...ters-about.htm I have seen it done, you can see through it fine and they work well. |

Since i was 16 years old on a moped (circa 75'/76') i always used a dob of fairy liquid on clean cloth for a wipe inside the visor, then polish lightly with clean cloth. Hey Presto worked all the time.
Moving on a whole bunch of years to racing in one make series such as V6 eurocar/ pickup trucks etc. Now more recently MK2 escort in classic stuff (no heater) We still adopt the fairy liquid approach with 100% reliability. This will require topping up from time to time & deffo do not apply to outside of screen. Passed the tip on to loads of fellow racers who assumed i was taking the pi55. I'm now their best mate. |

My wettest race I had the windows open because I thought that would equalise the conditions inside and out. It was a disaster. I had a pool of water sloshing around the floor and the windows fogged up badly, despite the use of Fog-X. Fortunately, I'm a big chap and I have a small car, so I was wiping the inside of the screen with the back of my glove...
Next wet race, I kept the windows up and the floor stayed dry. I also took care to ensure my driving suit stayed dry and I again used Fog-X and the windscreen stayed remarkably clear. |
