Surfer's Driver of the Race?
I know this is a bit late, but we've got a week before Mexico City. In your opinion who was the driver of the race for Surfers?

Bruno stayed cool during 3/4 of the race and then once he took the lead he slowly drove away from SeaBass to win comfortably. Way to go Junky!!!
David Besnard would be my second choice. For most of the race he was way off the pace and was just trying to keep his car between the walls. That being said, he was only around half a second slower then Carp who was running in front of David for a while and it was his first CC race so I think he did a great job to finish in seventh place. P.S. I would give Mario Dominguez the 'hard charger' of the race trophy cuz he looked fast all day long. He had his chrome horn stuck under the rear wing of any driver who was in front of him during the race. If Mario could settle down a bit, I think he will have a bright future ahead of him!! |

I have to disagree with the two popular choices, Junq and Besnard
Junqueira slowed the whole field down with his "asleep at the wheel" game, that really got me upset Besnard had no speed in his reynard...the only reason why he was potentially in a winning spot was because of pit strategy I voted "other" for Mr. Servia who has impressed me at every race this year |

How can you say he had no speed. His quickest lap was .2 secs quicker than Haberfield. His last open wheel race was in Atlantics in 99 and he only had 4 races then. In FF he dominated the field including Bargwanna & Ambrose & his records still stand from 98 in USF2000. He had only 2 test days before the event, Be interesting to see how Valiante compares in the same car.

Despite starting the poll, I haven't voted. I'm not sure if I want to pick Junky or Dominguez. Junky messed up the start, but when it was obvious that passing was impossible, he played it smart and saved fuel, unlike Bourdais. He smoked Bourdais when it mattered. Dominguez has been really quick despite his car being slower than the top two teams. Even when he's not passing I just like watching the guy drive. Personally I think that if Forsythe was smart he'd talk to Corona about switching sponsorship to Dominguez and pick him up for next year.
As for Besnard, it would be unfair to critisize him, but I didn't see anything spectacular. Faster than Haberfeld is quiet impressive, I did not know that. Seems strange though, because through the broadcast whenever we saw any evidence of Besnard's pace it was extremely slow. |
