Carly are a top team, and if true this is a real boost to the BTCC
A top team running an ETCC spec car (though sadly not a works team) can only help the series If true, great to see Tom F back. A massivly underated driver in my opinion |

Clio Cup Team Griffin also declared some time ago that they would be joining the BTCC with either one or two cars.

Although not a works team, Carly have still showed they can mix it with the likes of Schnitzer, Autodelta and Ravaglia cars! Excellent news for the BTCC! Is it definite?

Read on another post somehere that carly are testing at brands so i should think so.
Looks very good for 04 btcc, packed grid by all accounts and its still very early on really, there was quite a few last minute entrys for the 03 btcc so 04 could be landmark year! hurrah! |

Looks like it will be a pretty big grid. There should be at least 10 works cars (probably all BTCC-type), plus 6-10 BTCC-type Indies and at least 6 ETCC-Class Indies. As long as the handicapping is even and most of the Indies don't have to rely on pay-drivers, the stage is set for a mighty season. Opening up the rules might prove to be a masterstroke.

I popped into Brands Hatch today to have a little look, WOW!
Carly Motorsport only had one car running for both drivers but they did have a rather swish hospitality area in the garage for what looked like invited guests. The race car looked and sounde the mutts nutts, popping and banging as it changed gear and flames licking from the exhaust into paddock hill, it was stunning!! |

wow! Maybe the ETCC teams joining the BTCC isn't a bad idea after all! Lets hope Alfa and the rest get a few cars out...I think these BMW's will give the Vauxhalls a good run for their money next season!

I don't think it ever *was* a bad idea?! Whilst I'm sorry to see Production going I do feel we'll be better off next year. I just wish there was still a series where the proddies could go and play.

Hopefully that's enough to whet the appetite of the MG/Rover board who still need to commit to next season...

I do fear though, that if/when they competed against each other and MG beat a BMW, thats probably all they could talk about in the race reports...
