But he'd need to bring money with him for that surely ?

Not something I reckon a top driver and champ would be willing to do!

If you think of it like that then wouldn't Vauxhall be able to justify the extra cash or find some willing sponsor themselve.

I mean, a 3 car team with 3 title holders, how hard can that be to sell to someone..

Still reckon Rydell is better than Muller or Thompson so to be a 3rd driver and have to pay would be a bit of a weird thing for Rickard. But hey, if it means he is back in Britain...

It wouldnt last long, as soon as Rydell whipped them for a few rounds, the focus would shift to him and away from the other 2....

I agree with ATF's assessment of Rydell, he's a superb driver and has showed more brilliance in the inferior Volvo over the last 2 years. It's so sad that Volvo pulled the plug after a year having dictated 3 (effectively 4) years of his career and robbed him of one of those. I think he'd start as favourite if he returned.

Vauxhall's reluctance to add additional funding is udnerstandable. Havign finished 1-2-4, 1-2-3, and 1-2-3-4 over the 3 years of the current regs, the public expects Vauxahll success, and Vauxhall know that cheaper and perhaps less talented drivers can achieve that.

There are only TWO funded Vauxhall WORKS cars.

The other is 'sold off' to the highest bidder by 888 - no money .. no drive !!!!

Will these all be Vectras or a mix of the Vectra and the Astras?

Today's press release settles the issue. I asked the question because Thommo had a very good offer from Alfa Romeo for the ETCC. They were optimistic, he 'd take it. Obviously they were wrong.

The decision whether to race Astras or Vectras will be made after testing both cars according to the press release.

I know that..

You're missing my point though. Surely Vauxhall could persuade the extra cash out of the board if they had a name like Rickard Rydell in their team.

That would indeed be a powerhouse of a team right there. If they do go to the Vectra then the other teams just may have a chance... (through unreliability, mechanical failure and whatnot). Would be great to see what he [Rydell] could do in a top of the line car in the BTCC though.

I can guarantee you all that Rydell won't pay to drive in the BTCC:

Prob Vauxhall have is they can only go down hill. If they win then most people out side of BTCC will expect that. So from one point it would make no PR plus points to employ Rydell, in the UK anyway but it will make sure they win or do very well by having him on bored and stop a PR pain.

I think it's quite likely that Rydell will be in a Vauxhall in 2004, its just whether he'd pay for it...

Why in gods name would Rydell pay to drive in the BTCC when he got offers from the DTM with good money in it?!

Money talks.

On a side note (and I'm not trying to stir something up here - I'm just curious), which championship draws the most spectators, involves more money etc - BTCC or DTM?

I just sense that the BTCC is something that he wants another crack at.
Money of course talks, but I just sense that he'll return to the BTCC for 2004...

Yes, that's based on nothing but gut feeling, so don't ask for evidence!
