Arrival and camping info for Spa
I will be going to Spa to turn marshal next month, my first time there. I will be arriving in Brussels by train from Amsterdam Thursday morning. I plan to camp on/near the circuit with a small (2-man) tent. My questions are:
What is the marshals camping like at the track? are there showers available? Is it possible to use public transportation to get to/from the circuit from Brussels or am I better to hire a car for the weekend? I have been looking at the Eau Rouge and Spa D'or camp faculties that are both near the track. I think I would need the car to use either of these. Are there any marshals staying at these locations that could give me a ride to/from the track? thanks, |

I haven't marshalled at Spa, so can't give any information about marshalling, but I have used public transport to get there as a spectator. The nearest train stations are at Trois Ponts or Verviers (there is a station at Spa, but you have to change trains at Verviers, and the bus also goes from Verviers). You can get buses from either Trois Ponts or Verviers to Francorchamps, which stop near La Source, and near the main entrance (opposite the pits at the bottom of Eau Rouge).
The websites for the buses and trains are www.tec-wl.be and www.b-rail.be |

What event are you marshaling at? I'm sure Eddy will be along shortly with some useful info. There is some form of marshals' site up at les combes but you normally need a key for the gate. Facilities are pretty basic that side of the track, there is a shower but not much hot water! You could try calling or emailing the Racing Hotel - they have a campsite at the back and should have pitches available +32 87 27 50 38 info@francorchamps-racing-hotel.be. Quite a few of the marshals have caravans there so you should be able to get lifts to/from the track (it's not far, but there's a steep uphill that's a right pain if you have to do it on foot), the bar of the hotel is where everybody meets up at the end of the day so it's rather convenient (and the food is fine too!)
You can take the train from Bruxelles Midi to Verviers Central (train direction Eupen) and then a connection to Spa from there (2h in all, trains leave Brussels every hour). Then you'd have to take the bus, or try to get a cab (there aren't any at the station but there's a bar opposite so they should be able to call one) otherwise it's a long walk lol. Hiring a car might be easier! |
