It says Jordan will get a development of this years engine whereas Jaguar get the brand new one.

It sounds to me like Cosworth are developing both engines during an overlap period, and will switch Jordan to the new one when performance *and* capacity increase. No doubt though, if the new engine prooved to be a dud (which I doubt it will!) they still have an up to date and developed fall back.

I still think this is a good deal for Jordan. However, if they try and switch Jordan to the new engine mid-season as someone was suggesting, this could prove problematic for chassis integration.

And oh yes, I still think Jordan will be faster than Jaguar next year.

The trouble is because the engine is very different it will be difficult to switch between the two. It wil need a new car. So I think Jordan will only get the new one at the end of a season (and Jaguar will need to make a new car to go back to the old one).

At least they are still developing the old engine.

While Jordan are basically getting year old engines, I think its better than what they currently have and better than what Jag will have next year. And then once Jag get some reliability towards the end of next year, Jordan will be getting ready to accept the new powerplant into the 2004 car. Sounds like Jordan got the better deal here.

I think at this stage, its probably too late for Fisi to be looking around (all the good drives are gone) unless he decides to go with the works Jag and The Swerve goes the other way...

cant change engines mid season, 90 degrees V would not fit. Its not all bad to have an engine with a years development, at last you know what you are getting. New engines have been known to develop less initial hp than old, then there's the reliability issue....

..............and Minardi will get an older old engine. Niki reckons he has plenty of older old engines to flog off. You'd think he'd donate these to poor old Paul wouldn't you!!

The engines better be cheap. I dont see why he would pay for year old motors from Ford. It is a good motor but I dont think it is better than the one they have now. In fact Honda said by Suzuka they expect to have about as much power as the front teams do. Every year there are new developments on motors. Six months ago the Ford may have been the better motor; now, I dont know. I seriously doubt it will be a significant factor next year either. The chassis better be out of hand.

At least Jordan have got a pretty good engine in their car next year ,ok not one of the best , but something good to work with. Next year , theycant affford to start the season with a poor chassis like they did this year , they must produce something good from the start .

I new something wasn't right the moment EJ spurted forth with his proclamations of works engines.
And why did ford take a week to 'clarify' the statement?
Was it a typical f1 morals type grap for sponsers and drivers signitures by EJ??
Back to the main subject though.Minardi and jag get good to great deals, but why are jordan only getting the year old engine?Money?

Minardi would get even older motors that Jordan. I think Jag had something to do with the choices. Imagine if they had the same motors and Jordan kicked their butts.
