No Brazilian GP at Sao Paulo
Due to the bad economic situation in the state of Sao Paulo a judge has cancelled the 2004 Brazilian Grand Prix.
According to the judge the organisers couldn't guarantee there would be enough money to succesfully run the event in october Jacarepaguá is already named as possible replacement for Sao Paulo. http://ultimosegundo.ig.com.br/pagin.../165404_1.html |

Oh NO! I love Interlagos! My favourite circuit on the calendar
The question is, can Jacarepaguá be brought up to speed before 2004? South America needs a GP ... |

Jacarepagua is scheduled to host the Brazilian MotoGP round in July 2004. But is this too short notice?

Hmmm. I don't know. I reckon they'd be able to have it ready in time if they started now.

They're already working on Jacarepaguá for a while now as it's part of the 2007 Pan-Am Games complex.

both tracks (interlaos/nelson piquet) need work, maybe ciggy sponsorship could put money towards upgrading both tracks so they are both world class - bring on 2 brazilian gp's in 2005

Jacarepagua looks a bit mickey mouse to me, although i was never a great lover of Interlagos either, but as theres 18 races next season, i'd rather 1 of them was on the calander than be reduced to 17 races. |

for those of you who do not speak portugese go to http://www.lycos.co.uk/ and then click on translate on left colum - select [in this case]portugese to English. You can either insert a www. page to translate or a few words in appropiate boxes.
i found it useful anyway. |

Just watch an onboard lap with Patrese from 1989.
That's not a Mickey Mouse track, its mostly 3nd and 4th gear corners! It also have 2 great straights for overtaking. If F1 go there next year, will it be mostly 4th and 5th gear corners for them??? |

If this happens, at least Interlagos will have gone out with a spectacular event in 2003. To be honest I would look forward a race at Rio as the season finale more so than at Interlagos, the city is more suitable for F1 as it doesn't have the same crime and poverty as Sao Paulo, and I like seeing new/returning circuits on the calender, it's something fresh, and the good thing is that the circuit is one of the few that hasn't been influenced by that idiot Tilke. F1 still needs a race in South America, and Rio is definately one of, if not the best and most suitable circuits in that continent. Another circuit diagram here:ROLL ON JACARAPAGUA!!!

I think Interlagos is a great track, it appears to be one of those difficult tracks! Of course the old version was a lot better.
And the first corner even offers one of the best overtaking opportunities in F1. crozier's picture comes from www.racingcircuits.net (please reference), and you can see the new and old Interlagos there too: http://www.racingcircuits.net/Brazil/Interlagos.html |

Just looking at COS's pic, seems strange that the start and finish lines are on different parts of the track???
 |

Looking at the various Interlagos combinations there has been over the years: the external track would have been some circuit to race on!

*Insert swear words here*.
I love that track. Such a shame. We all knew that Sao Paolo really isn't that, ah, money flooded city, but it was a damn nice circuit. One of my favourites definately, proabably the favourite. So how many GP's have come under threat or been lost in the past few years? Way too many, and a lot of good ones as well. Australia - A few years ago and now Brazil - Now, and plus, before, people said it wasnt safe enough Austria - gone Belgium - Was gone. Canada - Still having issues Silverstone - Well, any F1 man with power hates that place. France - Too expensive, may go to Le Mans |

There was a few good races in interlagos but not enought to keep that track. It would be good to have a oval race in f1...

I must say i'll miss interlagos. The track had some awsome bits and a great atmosphere.Too hard just to go there though with the huge crime and safety problems. It's a poor city i guess-no surprise at all that they can't afford bernies extortion payments

The Magny Cours track is one i'd personally love to remove from the calendar, surely there is somewhere else in France that is up to F1 spec?
Im not overly keen on Paul Ricard either, both are too flat. |
