Champ Car at Mont Tremblant!

Two different radio stations have been announcing this mourning that a tentative deal has been reached between a promoter and Champ Car officials that a race be held on the Canada Day week-end (July 1st) at Mont Tremblant thus undercutting the Busch series race which will take over from Champ Car in early august. The confirmation is supposed to be announced the day after the Busch series is to be announced. I am sooooo pleased with this information as the Tremblant circuit is a lovely one with reasonable distance to Montreal.

It would be an excellent venue, but I find the story to be a bit unbelieveable from a business perspective. I guess we shall see.

Anybody remember the last time Champ cars (sorta) were at Tremblant? Somewhere around 2002, I think.

And before you all tell me I'm an idiot, watch Driven again (if you can stand it). Tremblant stands in for Germany.

cheers,
keke

I'll go, particularly if they *don't* let the riffraff in.

Racerkeke, for "Driven", they used Montreal and a test facility in Quebec (not an actual racing circuit) to create the Germany track. So no, Champ Cars have not been to St. Jovite since 1968.

I've heard that is one nice track. Do they have it secured for the next few years, does anyone know?

There is no mention right now for the years to come. All that has been said so far is some investment will have to be done in order to assure the viability of the venue in the future. This info I got from the radio.

as far as I can tell, there is no official announcement, but while I'm glad they (may) be coming to Tremblant, it definately is far away from Montreal and so the crowd will surely be down just because of the location and travelling time.

Time will tell as per official confirmation, then we can discuss it properly.

If you are thinking of going to the race, book your accomodations now. Mont Tremblant is a popular summer resort and a quick search for rooms found many of the best hotels already booked for the July 1st weekend.

July 1st is Canada day (a national holiday), and the traditional beginning of summer holidays for schools and businesses so it will be busy.

Co promoter revealed - Normand Legault.

It also mentions Marcel Aubut as being, if I understand correctly, the long term promoter?

Excellent. Aubut is the guy who turned the Quebec Nordiques into the Colorado Rockies.

Hello Paul,

Actually Aubut is a lawyer who will be looking into the business aspects of the transactions. It does not say he will be a promoter. People in the Province have been stunned to hear Legeault is involved again.
