F3 at Combe 13/14th Sept

At Castle Combe on the 14th Sept there was a nasty incident in the second F3 race. I did not actually see the incident but I was told about it. I was wondering if anyone knew the condition the driver/s that were involved?

Also did anyone see the incident at Bobbies in the second Formula Ford race that caused the stoppage? I saw the car as I drove past but I couldn't tell what had acused the incident.

Apart from a few incidents I wouls also like to say that it was a great weekend of racing!

The FF1600 accident at Bobbies was caused when a couple of cars touched wheels and one was flipped into a barrel roll. Driver was fine considering the scale of the accident.
The ARP F3 accident I only saw from a distance.
There was also a big accident in the Super mighty minis at Tower corner involving two of the leading four cars - I believe the drivers were ok. Anyone got any further info??

It was car number 7 or 71 - it was someone not listed in the main program. We couldn't work it out either.
ps darcym - I like your helmet colouring / design - it stands out well.

The FF1600 car that was sat at Bobbies was that of James Wren, I am sure of that.

In the ARP F3, the purple-silver car #9 spun at the exit of Camp, and was t-boned seconds later by a white car of Chris Gray I think. Chris's nosecone impacted the purple-silver car's sidepod, and then another yellow car was involved but at much lower speed.

The driver of the yellow car was out immediately, but the other two remained in their cars while the rescue units rushed to the scene. I think the driver of the purple-silver car was winded, as he eventually climbed out of the car on his own, but spine boards were called for just in case.

It took longer to remove Mr. Gray, and I think he was suffering from leg problems, but he was conscious as they took him off in an ambulance. Don't really know what his injuries were, but looking at his car in the Parc Fermé are later, there wasn't much damage to the driver's leg compartment - brake cylinders, pedal box and steering rack were all intact, a testament to the front-end strength of the car he was driving.

Has to be something to do with Hugh Elliot,

hugh Elliot is not on the restart finishers, and started close to the back after an engine problem in race 1.

Was it an Orange car ??? that went out with Jame wren ?

Obviously any video footage shot at Combe (or anywhere I believe)should only be for personal viewing due to licensing laws. I will contact you via a personal message.

If anyone has FF1600 videos of Combe then count me in.

I have loads from my previous career form 1996, but no recent footage since my comeback.

Cheers,

Ed

Mr Wren was a bit dazed and confused, and with the car in the position it was (with him still in it) there was no choice but to red flag it. Think he'll be ok, but it was quite a heavy roll (ie landed upside down quite hard).

F3 accident looked huge from Bobbies.. wheels also seemed to be heading towards the pitlane!

Mini drivers also lucky considering that they went in hard and didn't bounce, both cars written off probably.

One Super Mighty looks to be written off, as it has bent the roof (Ben Seyfried's car), but the other one wasn't too badly damaged, and should be okay.

We're still waiting to hear about what Ben is going to do, he's still in with a chance of the championship I think, and the next round is at Oulton on the 11th of October.

The latest bulletin I had on the F3 accident comes from the Chief Medical Officer at Castle Combe on Monday morning:

"...the drivers involved were not badly injured, but have not had any further information so far."

I've not had an update since then. I do know that both F3 drivers were admitted to hospital on Sunday.

The Super Mighty Mini drivers were asked to go to the Medical Centre as a precaution - both *seem* to be okay.
