Bike data acquisition files

Hi!

I usually do some data acquisition for formulas and GT cars. Yesterday a friend asked me if I could recomend him to buy, and them install and make the correspondent interpretation for a track day bike.

I was thinking about and AIM Evo4 that already has GPS and triaxial acc. I could connect it to the ECU via CAN to get rpm and throttle. Then use 2 of the analog channels to have pots of front and rear wheel.

Still, I would like to analyse the bike lean angle and was wondering what additional sensor should I buy or if I can calculate it someway (I was thinking about it and I think its not possible with the system I mentioned).

Also, I would appreciate somebody can send me an Aim or Motec file of any road bike where lean angle has been measured/calculated. (AIM sample of a Suzuki is useless)

Thanks in advance for your help!

I was under the impression that the EVO4 was a bike specific logger....

From the AIM website

......1 integrated three-axial accelerometer, fully configurable, providing all info about the effects of forces acting on your bike while cornering, accelerating or braking........

Surely the tri-axial accelerometer is specifically meant to log cornering angles. It is also possible to get the MXL screen as a slave for the EVO4 now, or so I am told giving a choice between that and the M4 screen.

If you have to use the Z component in a lean calculation it ends up really noisy. Even trying it from Y axis acceleration can be dodgy. The test is if you try to draw a track map from such derived lean angle data.

Using a single axis Gyro isn't too expensive anymore and is much more accurate.

Also, CAN interface isn't user definable with AIM so make sure they have a template for your bike before you begin.
