Drag Racing

There are sub- forums for hillclimbs , drifting , karts and bikes (etc) . But nothing for drag racing . And there really should be one.

Or is it only the F1 soap opera which appeals to most users ?

A drag racing thread was started in the National & Club Racing section in 2003.

That perhaps reflects the fact that if you were interested in drag racing you might not , y'know, look for it in a thread about something else .

I just raise an eyebrow , that's all , that if a very niche area like drifting gets sub forum maybe drag racing and speed record stuff (as run by Straightliners ) deserves an opportunity ?

Some affect to look down at drag stuff , but as someone who attends everything from hillclimbs to racing at every level I think drag racing deserves more. It has a fanatical following , the spectacle is extraordinary and the customer care for paying punters puts most other disciplines to shame .

Fanatical being the word, we've done the 1000 mile round trip three times already this year, and will be going to the Summer Nationals in a fortnights time.

For me it's just the out and out speed, @ the recent Main Event the European Speed record was broken on both days with it now being 321mph from a standing start to a 1000 yards. Eat your heart out Max, Lewis et al.

I'm not trying to diminish the appeal of drag racing at all. Just wondering if the lack of a sub forum is due to the lack of interest from previous posters on the subject. I appreciate you might not look in those areas of the site, but the search function returns very little on the topic too.

I guess the only real way we can now is for a sub forum to be created and see how popular it gets? I'm sure there are some prolific posters who would contribute....

Cheers . I'm off to Melbourne strip , near York today in fact and will certainly post in any sub forum .

Like the Fat Clerk , I was at the Main Event and although I've been going to the Pod since 1973 , the sight and sound of even(!) a Pro Mod car is both wonderful and terrifying .

It deserves a bigger audience, not least because in the increasingly po faced world of motorsport, drag racing has a sense of humour and recognises that everyone - racers and spectators et al- are all part of the same event

Another plus is the friendliness of everyone, it's free to walk around the Paddock and you can get close to the cars and drivers unlike other formulas..

I agree, it certainly isn't an area of motorsport that thinks it is above another and goes round thinking it is better and bad mouths other areas.

Let's get some good interesting chat going and show 'em. Start a thread in National, or Trackside, or Parc Ferme and I'll stickie it so it stays at the top for a bit. Let's see how it grows and if it warrants a subforum. If it's not just a one off, has some cool stuff in it, I am sure it will grow.
