Creation's exclusive engine deal

Creation Autosportif has made an exclusive engine partnership deal with AIM Industries. Engine Developments/Judd will develop an all new 90° V10 engine; remember Judd GV4 and GV5 are 72° V10s.

2007 will be a development/testing year.

In 2008 they will have a 2 car effort: Sebring, Le Mans + LMS; 1 all Japanese line-up, other car Creation selected drivers.

There is an option to run on bio fuel.
Quote:
Creation Autosportif has agreed an exclusive engine partnership deal with AIM Industries, a Japanese specialist engineering resource company. The multi-year partnership will see the exclusive supply to Creation of an all new 90° V10 engine for use in Creation’s Le Mans prototype sportscar chassis.

...

This is a completely exclusive deal. AIM is proposing an entirely new engine, the design of which will accommodate Creation’s desire to cross over into the use of bio fuels in the future. As AIM has not previously been known for engine development and design, they have sought the assistance of Judd (Engine Developments) for this project.

2007 will be a year of testing and development with the engine. In 2008, the Creation AIM partnership plans to contest the 12 Hours of Sebring, the entire Le Mans Series and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Two Creation chassis will be entered – both powered by the AIM engine. One chassis will be driven by an all-Japanese line-up while the other will be crewed by a team of drivers selected by Creation. The partnership continues at least until the end of 2010.

I must confess to having felt quite emotional when I heard about this. Sure, I'm a big fan of Creation (so there's an element of bias in there somewhere), but I'm absolutely thrilled to see their future in Le Mans type racing assured and their efforts and perseverance rewarded with this fantastic deal. Well done Mike Jankowski, and congratulations to the whole Team.

AIM is also a personal sponsor of Shinji Nakano. Their logo was on the n°13 Courage this year.

They mention that 2007 is a development and testing year. Does this mean they won't actually run in the 12hr/24hr/LMES.

Fantastic news in the long run either way!

Race programme unconfirmed but they will be racing in 2007. The new 5.5 litre version of the Judd V10 will be installed in the new LMP1 for next year.

According to DSC Creation will race with the Judd GV5.5 S2 this year. So the development/testing is not done during races...

Going from 72° to 90° seems an extensive change. I assume Judd can keep the GV5 S2 cylinder heads, but they will have to develop a new engine block, new crankshaft, ...

A V angle of 90° means a lower center of gravity. Maybe Creation is preparing for a coupe

Since the deal currently expires after Le Mans in 2010, they're going to have to build a coupe (which is exactly what Creation have wanted to do all along).

How will the AIM engine deal affect other Judd customers in the longer term, will it be marketed instead of, or as well as, the existing Judd products?

I don't think it will be available at all during the exclusivity period. After that, I guess it would be up to AIM.

My take on it is that the deal will be an exclusive deal with Creation and other Judd users will trundle on with the GV5S2 and progresive developements .

I seem to remember that a fully enclosed "Coupe" LMP1 is in the offing for next season. So I hope they will be racing at Le Mans next year as I'm going to be in their pits for a brief visit!

Oh well, I was totally wrong about it being Mazda!

Hope thet don't have to take any styling cues from what appears to be a Mercedes 300SL bodied MX5 on the AIM website.

It will be VERY interesting to see what kind of equivalency 'deal' the ACO will give them for the bio-fuel. I expect it'll give us a lot to talk about!

Good luck to them anyway. Can't wait for next year's racing to start.

Just found this on Wikipedia

Ethanol contains approx. 34% less energy per gallon than gasoline, and therefore will get 34% fewer miles per gallon… For E85 (85% ethanol), the effect becomes significant. E85 will produce approximately 27% lower mileage than gasoline, and will require more frequent refueling. Actual performance may vary depending on the vehicle.

If they are doing a new cylinder block - it looks like a great opportunity to make the engine a fully stressed member and lose those A-frame braces down each side........I seem to remember in the early days of the 4.0 V10 engine that it was found to be a bit too flimsy in torsion and bending, I think the torsional loadings in a full LMP900 car were much greater than the F1 car that the engine was originally designed for (in 3.0/3.5 guise).......something along those lines!....... hence everyone started running the A-frames.

Someone also please correct me if I'm wrong but I think the class limit is 6.0 Litres for LMP1 petrol engines......so they could also stretch out another 0.5Litres and reduce the peak RPM, probably gain another 10bhp, but most important of all - another significant hike in torque......just my 2 pence worth

Welcome to 10-10ths 'C9/89' (Merc fan eh!).

Creation will definitely be racing at Le Mans next year (they already have an automatic entry). And, a Creation coupe is without doubt in the pipeline. But the 2007 car will be open (unless there's been another u turn I'm unaware of). It makes no sense for Creation to build a coupe until the 2010 regulations are published by the ACO (coupes are compulsary in LMP1 from 2010 onwards).

But who knows, Creation are always full of surprises!

Pictures of new livery with AIM backing are up on DSC. Not 100% convinced by the yellow wheels (which I always thought were really elegant in black), nor, to be honest, by the tagline, which is a bit "all your base are belong to us"...

I actually misread the 'tagline' when I first saw it. Thought it said 'Cash to Grant our Dreams' (which would appear to make more sense )!

...I bet it loses something in the translation from the Japanese!

I think Creation should re-think their livery. While I really like the blue, it needs a re-vamp 'cos it now just looks like a blue car with yellow stickers. I used to like it with the 'Creation' logo on the side but now it is not so nice with the sponsors on the side.

On the other hand, an engine deal is a big thing and congratulations to them. What is even more sigificant is that in includes a testing program and a two car effort in 2008. Well done.

Ya. Maybe the car painted as a globe map of the world with the Garden of Eden on the bonnet, or as Frankenstiens Castle with the monster(or the motor) laying on the table on the bonnet representing Creation!!

Have I missed something? Where are the pics? Sounds like they might just be an interim measure. How's about we have a livery design competition!

Some were released on dsc.

I kinda liked the livery of the Capuava Racing Team but somehow I don't think they would run with that one.

The idea of a contest could be fun and the winner gets to drive the car!!! as if.

Would it be easy to set up?
