BREAKING NEWS: Montoya may miss Bahrain GP
Autosport reporting that JPM has suffered a hairline fracture of his shoulder after a fall while playing tennis and has apparently been told to rest it for three weeks.
It looks like he'll be stood down for Bahrain and replaced by Pedro de la Rosa |

So even his testing work is not being used now?
Why don't they let him race then... Such a talented driver going down the drain... |

Alex is doing a lot of tyre testing in an MP4-19B chassis - they are making an MP4-20 which he will fit, but it won't be ready until Barcelona.
I'm wondering if Ron might turn to Mika Hakkinen for Friday in Bahrain - he's said he wouldn't race F1 again - but this would be just testing! |

Well, they say bad luck comes in threes. After reading about Webber's broken rib, Sato missing the last race and now this, it seems like F1 is having some pretty rotten luck at the minute. Hope JPM heals up quick, and hope there is no more bad luck to come.

Hopefulyl de la Rosa can make use of his opportunity. It's a shame for Montoya to miss a race, but these things happen, and I'm sure he'll be back to his best for Imola.

De la Rosa was the nominated third driver for the first three races anyway. If Wurz can't fit into the latest car (and he is most certainly not rubbish), then just possibly Darren Turner will be given a run. He does a lot of background work for the team.

bad luck for McLaren .. i'm sure de la Rosa will do his best . but it's almost sure they will lose ground to Renault yet again .

Oh and KB, did you intend there to be a pun with the "Breaking news" title, or was it accidental?

Tough luck. Hope it gets better fast
I'm sure Montoya isn't keen to miss a race just when his battle with the teammate is heating up, and when every point is needed to stay in touch with Renault and Alonso. |

Is there a link that can back up this rumour other than what autosport have to say?

Best of luck to Pedro....tough luck for JPM..maybe this is the reason that he was not as agressive in the first two races as we are normally used to from him?

Only Setanta Sports is running the story and not subscription based like Atlas/Autosport. |

At this stage nothing is confirmed, although clearly 'resting for 3 weeks' and driving an F1 car in a week's time aren't compatible. Maybe the Friday drive could go to someone like Lewis Hamilton as a promotional move, if he can get a sueprlicense?

Noooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!! JPM can't miss Bahrain!!!!
FJ........Wurz was most certainly not rubbish from 1999 onwards. He was screwed over by Flavio in 2000 and had to runa heavier version of the Benetton B200. He got his hands on the lighter car for his final race and was much quicker than Fisi.....about 6 tenths or so! Wurz is a top driver and very unlucky to be stuck in a testing role......this, unbelievably, is his fifth straight testing year with McLaren! A waste of talent! |

Hmm...yes Alex Wurz has been one of those unlucky guys really...a real shame that he cannot race in place of JPM....

Interesting, I know De La Rosa is the only choice McLaren have... but if I recall correctly, doesn't Wurz have the 'official reserve driver' status?
It's a shame that he misses out on the oppurtunity. Oh well, good luck De La Rosa. Here's your chance to finally make an impression. |

Interesting. If Montoya misses Bahrain, in recent times, almost all the top teams have had to use a reserve driver in a Grand Prix for some reason.
McLaren: De la Rosa replacing Montoya BAR: Davidson replacing Sato, Sato replacing Villeneuve Toyota: That whole Panis-Zonta-Trulli mess at the end of last season Renault: Villeneuve replacing Trulli Williams: Gene and Pizzonia replacing Ralf Schumacher The only top team that hasn't had to use a reserve driver recently is Ferrari... and arguably, Luca Badoer is the test driver that deserves a race oppurtunity the most for his efforts! |

It's on Autosport now. Also says that the McLaren staff are being called in tomorrow to get the car fit for for Alex to use as the third driver. Look out for dripping melting chocoalate in Bahrain. |

Oh well, im missing the Bahrain race anyway, as I have to be at Donnington Park, so as JPM isn't racing, I don't mind so much now.
