The V8Supercar Sydney 500, this December 6 – 8, will host the most hotly contested Championship Finale in the modern era of the sport.

Four contenders remain, two teams, two brands, two races at 150 points per race available, a twilight event on the Saturday.

The provisional points standings after Phillip Islands are super close:

1. Jamie Whincup - 2,815 points
2. Craig Lowndes - 2,795 points
3. Mark Winterbottom - 2,691 points
4. Will Davison - 2,592 points

Not a lot in it.. but it will require a DNF or poor result from the RBRA combatants for the FPR gang to have a shot at the title...

But the 4 title combatants arent the only ones playing here...

Mr Courtney will be in a brand new VF for the weekend, looking to get rid of a horrible run of bad luck. Mr Tander proved speedy on Saturday at PI.

And, if the story is right, its Mr Ingall's Last Championship Series race.. and perhaps Mr Fiore's... and if the rumours are right, maybe Mr Webb's too

#1 doesnt have form at this track... but is more likely than not...

If its a clear day, the drivers won't need headlights

WHincup to win , Lowndes second frosty third.

FPR just cant get the speed , they need , played follow jamie at PI, frosty lacks a bit of mongrel attitude.

Will will get spun , from playing back in the pack.

But others will be going out for race win or positional finish for the year , the front runners wont be troublled, but from 4-15 will be a full on battle, with some bent cofts

Are those 2 statements a little contradictory? Most hotly contested championship of the modern era requiring major issues to happen to the 2 888 cars for the other 2 to have a shot????????

Also when you say sport do you motorsport as whole or the category of v8sa? Clarity may be useful when throwing out a line such as 'most hotly contested championship of the modern era'.

4 cars are still in the running mathematically. That is an immutable fact.
