The Last Time

A trivia question.

When was the last time a Grand Prix was cancelled

a) for weather?
b) for other circumstance and what were those circumstances?

JohnnyFiama should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Spa was postponed in 1985. The teams turned up, ran some practice and the track started to fall apart. The weekend was abandoned and they ran it later in the year.

Can't think of anything more recent than that but I wait to be corrected....

I seem to remember reading in the '85 Autocourse that this was the only time a World Championchip GP was cancelled (and then only postponed).

That's correct, although we have had Grands Prix red flagged because of rain - 1991 in Adelaide lasted only about 20 minutes.

None of the drivers would do one of the adelaide downpours, but I can't remember which one.

No - every Adelaide race did start.

In 1989 Alain Prost stopped after 1 lap though.

Adelaide 1991 was stopped after 14 laps and to this day is the shortest grand prix in history.

Also the only grand prix my brother has attended (he is not a motorsport fan) and has vowed never to back because he is still trying to dry himself (serves himself right for not taking me )

The story about the 1989 GP is that most (all except Senna?) agreed to stop after one lap because it was too bad. Only Prosty did. Berger said afterwards that he felt so weak for not sticking by the decision.

Was that the one where Senna drove into the back of Brundle and Mansell came through to win?

That 1989 story sugegsts something - Senna had astonishing courage, and Prost has astonishing self-belief and honour. Maybe those factors set them apart from the rest at the time.

Senna drove into the back of Brundle, Boutsen won, Nakajima-san finished in the points (and set fastest lap!)

I remember the on car rear facing shot from Brundle's car as Senn appeared like a shark out of the spray
