Davidson to race Civic type -R at Macau

So Hows he gonna go then? Hard to make a prediction cause I Don't really know anything about touring cars (but then neither does Davidson!)

should be very funny whatever.

I'm not saying he will, but where is "be slow, impressing no one" or even "go slower than somone driving a car 17s a lap inferior to the Civic and crash"?

In this poll, it seems, you can only vote 8, 9 or 10 out of 10!

You know, as a moderator, you can edit polls, Adam.

I've added the "be slow" option - just for the sake of balance, in case someone wants to vote for something other than "Hooray" "Hooray again" or "Hip hip hooray!"

IMO, it depends who his opponents are and what car's they will be driving, if Alfa-Romeo joins in their 156's, then i'm quite sure he won't impress that much with a civic...

A Civic is a nice little car, but that's it really...

PS: I noticed the new option and would like to know if someone could change my "do average" vote into a "go very slow" one?

He has a JAS prepared car, so the machinary isn't bad, just depends how quickly he can adapt to a Touring Car.

A lot of single seater drivers have struggled when moving to Touring Cars (Mansell, Warwick, Palmer etc) so I think he won't win but will do average as he seems to be a quick learner

I can see him trying a little too hard and beaching it, but not before showing a turn of speed, as he did in both his F1 races. Maybe a BTCC Honda drive is his future, if he doesn't get into F1 by 2004. A good showing owuld be helpful to this

Dont know if he will win but I dont think the equipment will be the weak link in this formula. If the touring car from the BTCC can be used as a benchmark the car should be FAST. In touring cars the car started at the rear of the grid in 2002 and by the end of the season it had won 2 races and had quite a few podiums. This was done on a barely developed car.

Boots, I'm not sure you can beach it at Macau! It's either on the tarmac or in the wall

This could be better served in the Touring Car Forum...

So can he adapt to tin-tops?

Could be interesting, the Civic is a great car (as BTCC fans already know). There's a fair bit of quality opposition, Tarquini and Larini (Alfa 147), Tim Harvey (Peugeot 307), Roukonen (Peugeot 306), Tom Chilton (BMW 320), Simon Harrison (Ford Focus), James Kaye (Civic), Duncan Huisman and Jorg Muller (BMW 320)

Considering that Peugeot and Alfa are Works team and have a longer history racing in the Macau Grand Prix, I think the Civic Type R has it's work cut out for it.

Seems Touring Car fans are not as knowledgable as F1 fans!

See www.mst-group.co.uk for all the stats.

Boots you old cynic!...Ant only 'beached' the Minardi because it has the steering of a truck! That's why Webber 'garaged' at Indy and Yoong 'beached' at Suzuka!

Honda asked Ant if he'd drive the Civic R (they loan him a road version) Ant has never raced a Tin top before (not counting the BTCC Astra in the 2000 Autosport McLaren Young Driver of the Year Awards...where he was 8 tenths quicker than his rivals...and which helped swing the award his way due to his "versitility and adaptability")

Anthony pedicted to me on the way to the airport that the rear wheel drive cars BMWs would be the cars to beat!

So it proved...but as Alchemy says "A racer is a racer" Grid 14 to 5th in Race one, just what he used to do in karting (Last to first on many occassions)

But starting amongst the 'Beamers' in Race Two...was always going to upset them...He passed two of them at the start (a front wheel drive car on cold tyres is at a great disadvantage where theres no run-off area) so it proved when German driver Peter Sharmach in BMW Number 30. just pushed Ant into the Armco barrier to steel his 3rd position.

That's Touring Cars for you..."Stock Car Racing" They would soon come a cropper in an open wheeler!
