Helmet rules for 2014

A scrut last season suggested my helmet may no longer be eligible in 2014, can anyone layout in laymans terms what has changed if anything and if I have to throw yet another perfectly good helmet in the bin? Also what about Spa?

Max (Midgetman) gave some details about the current/new regs for helmets in the 2014 delta tea-break thread starting at page 19 posting #274 ( http://tentenths.com/forum/showthrea...140469&page=19 ), followed by some discussion/debate.

One assumes that, if it meets the criteria set out in Max's posting, then the answer is yes. Only you can tell, at this moment, if it has the correct labelling as set out in the scrute's bulletin.

No Idea I will obviously have a look, but the more general question I am asking, if it was OK for 2013 is it now OK for 2014 or as the Scrut suggested has something changed?

In the UK it looks like nothing has changed for this year, if you are going to Spa I don't think you can use BS 6658 Type A/FR which has the blue kite mark, but don't take my word for it, check with the regs. Don't forget that at Spa you need a full set of underwear gloves, boots and overalls complying with FIA Standard 8856-2000.

Almost right Tim, Bs A/FR has a red Kitemark, banned internationally now, blue was pensioned off some years ago (no F/R lining).

As Tim says Al, tell us what you've got or better still follow my link on the other thread. Don't listen to Internet gossip even when it is well informed, my link on the other thread went to the FiA's list which is what the guys at Spa go off.

Helmet standards have been advertised for years, but don't baffle scrutineers with the facts!

MSA clarifies crash helmet standards
The Motor Sports Association (MSA) has issued regulation clarifications regarding two current crash helmet standards.

The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) has announced that it will cease to recognise the BS 6658-85 Type A/FR helmet standard after December 31, 2013.

However, at its most recent meeting earlier this month, the Motor Sports Council agreed to extend the life of this standard until at least December 31, 2015. This is to offer an additional two years of use for those buying the current version.

The MSA would also like to draw attention to the Snell SA2000 helmet standard. Regulation K 10.3.1 of the 2010 Competitors’ and Officials’ Yearbook states that this standard ‘May be withdrawn with effect from 01/01/11’. However, the MSA is pleased to confirm that this standard will now be valid until December 31, 2014.
