Canon 5D Mk 2

Given the ability of some to debate anything however obscure on this forum, I am amazed that there has been no thoughts on the introduction of this new camera or its counterpart from Nikon.

http://www.luminous-landscape.com/re...dmkiipre.shtml

This camera and its video abilities will transform the job of a motorsports photographer, if it does not kill it off all together at least from this side of the fence.

The issues are technical and business practice, the current demarcation between film and video has effectively disappeared.

Oh and in rip off Britain you can get your hands on one for £2299 but in the Land of the Free and the Brave they get to shell out $2699 (£1467).

21 MEGAPIXELS!!!!

I WANT ONE, I BLOODY WANT ONE NOW!!!

ok moving on from that, seems like a bloody amazing camera but £2,300 is very very steep for the camera, particularly if it is just the camera body itself. As for the video on the camera, well im very skeptical, video on digi or SLR camera's 99% of the time tends to be rubbish particularly the sound quality which most of the time is frighteningly bad compared to a video camera.

How long before circuits ban their use, unless you pay for a video licence?

I don't think it will kill us off yet - I would assume you can still do a better job with a dedicated video camera setup.

Other than that it does look like a nice camera, we've got the original one, and the pictures from it are great.

I did find it odd to discover the MII was being released, given that a few months ago in EOS magazine Canon stated they were not going to do a MKII yet......

The best thing about the MKII is that for those of us who don't need 21MP we'll get a full frame sensor camera at a steal when the shops start selling off the old stock cheap.....

Looks like a nice camera - not sure I need 21 megapixels though. The video would be a nice feature to me - and I wouldn't worry too much about the quality - it's HD, and presumably the camera would have a far better lens on it than you get on most video cameras - as for sound there's a socket for an external mic. There are some quite impressive clips to be found and a short film by VIncent LaForet (think that's his name). Only slightly unknown part is how the autofocusing behaves during filming.

Don't think you can. If I've read it right it's one or the other, although I think I understood that it will take a still then immediately start recording video?
