I love endurance races, but not at QR !

I love watching endurance races, but Queensland Raceway is so boring! I think the VIP Petfoods 500 should be moved to that Darlington Park circuit. That unused circuit between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

I must admit not being a fan of this track either...on TV it comes accross as very repeditive and a little hard to know what part of the track all the similar looking corners are on.

What's it like though as a spectator track ?

I agree, Darlington Park would be much better. Why not bring back an Enduranbce Championship, with the Pepsi 250 at oran Park, an enduro at darlington, the Calder Sun 300, Nissan 500 at the Creek and so on, i'd include sandown but its for PROCAR, probably better for the race.

QR is rubbish - the Sandown 500 was always a good race.

The endurance championship would be good - Bathurst, QR, Adelaide, Canberra. To be honest, I think there should only be two formats -Endurance races without compulsory stops or anything stupid, and sprint races - two forty minute races with pitstops. I am just sick of this nonsense in having different formats each week...

I must admit to being a critic of the joint, but it really has grown on me. Ok, an endurance race around there might drag things out a bit...but really, within the given parameters, they couldn't build anything too tricky. Plus the dramas with building the joint didn't help.

What it has going in its favour is that you can overtake anywhere you want, and it is safe...you may get more rollovers than normal, but not too many people hit anything solid.

It isn't too bad for spectators, probably its biggest drama is a lack of shade. They are starting to install seating on the hills, so that will be good when completed.

I would have to say that it is has a soft spot in my heart.
I love the people that work there, the facilities and anthing else.
yes I agree the racing can get a little boring, but the good outweigh the bad.
It is my second home.

gaaa...does this mean you have a first home?

Certainly, the facilities in the tower are tops, it has a decent pit area, it is flat, so no more of that getting buggered walking up hills stuff...

You're right, the people out there are tops, and they seem to be doing all the right things to make the place a success.

And I prefer Surfers to QR... but even Surfers (Williams, Dunlop Bridge Surfers) ranks about eight or nine circuits (of the current ones) behind Lakeside...

Oh yeah, love Lakeside...but Lakeside is a totally different thing to QR, kind of like apples and oranges as far as race tracks go.

Queensland Raceway is boring, and does not look challenging at all. They say it is, but I don't believe the.

However, I will admit the races are usually exciting, but it is just so damn boring.

Move the 500 back to Sandown, or don't have one at all.

Bathurst, Canberra and Adelaide are enough enduros.

I reckon the only problem with QR is the track (& the pitlane, where is the garages), and the first two corners are pretty good actually, rather like surfers, but the track takes a dive after that, bloody awful.

On Surfers, what is the land being used for now, or is it another Amaroo, waste of a good track, i heard a rumour last year or the year before that some of the barriers are still in place at Surfers and you could make out the way the track went.?????

QR's pitlane it pretty good, the pits are the best in OZ. The one good thing about the rest of the track is that you can overtake on it...

Surfers is just there rotting away. The airstrip and the drag strip are still in use, but the rest of it is getting overgrown....although I have seen road bikes circulating there.

I visited the old Surfer's track last year just before Indy. It didn't look that great really, and there is now a turf farm as well as a flight place in the middle. The tower still stands, but rather dilapidated.

I hate it that great tracks like Amaroo and Surfers Paradise are rotting away, they were sold for housing development or in surfers case a golf course (i think), and know Lakeside possibly falling by the wayside, a fund needs to be set up by someone to at least keep the tracks in presentable looks. Take Catalina Park in the blue mountains, i had a quick look from the other side of the fence (pretty easy to get in, was going to walk the track but didn't have time), and it looks in pretty good shape, and it hasn't been used for years, yet there is no grass growing through the track, the barriers are still in place and even those 1960 style Start/Finish sign is still hanging on the main straight, i'm gonna have another look, maybe some pics if i can.

Yeah I'll put my hand up and admit I was impressed by the race today as well...until that red flag came out and soured the day.

There was a suggestion of Darlington Park before. Unfortunately Darlington Park is NOT a race track. It's completely unusable for racing. It's a great circuit sure, but it is not a racetrack. No pits, no facilities and no fences. And the owners don't want to build them either.

The 500 was great yesterday, however it was the weather that soured it, not the red flag, the red flag was merely the inevitable outcome of the weather.

QR can be great fun, the shorter versions of the cicrcuit have worked really well for state level racing. Pity it's such a long drive.

Lakeside is a goat track. It's our goat track though and the best damn goat track in the world, but it desperately needs an overhaul.

The end of the race yesterday reminded me of that Grp A race at Surfers in 85 or 86...

QR is great as a spectator track as you can see the entire circuit from any point and the facilities aint too shabby either. They have certainly upgraded the roads since the first event they held. But I can see how it would come across as boring on tv but thats like any track/race (for me personally). I would rather be at the track than sitting at home watching it (rain hail or shine - i went last weekend and stuck threw it, you go prepared and its fine!).

The race was ok, pretty exciting towards the end, but why was the race spoiled by a red flag, there was only 4 laps to go, if there was 20 or so to go then fair enough, but a measly 4, and there weren't that many in the sand anyway, spoiled a good race.

Racer69, I think it was the right decision - if you look at the laps before, so many cars went off - Bright, McDougall, Bowe, Neal, Brock, Radisich - there would have been no one left.
