Round 2: revised calendar. GMR Grand Prix, Indianapolis Motor Speedway. July 4.
Round 2: revised calendar. GMR Grand Prix, Indianapolis Motor Speedway. July 4.
It's been almost a month since the Chequered flag fell at Texas and it will be the seventh running of this event. So far, the start of each race has barely been without incident, the exception being 2017 and last year, though there was a coming together with O'Ward and Rossi, who sustained some damage, forcing him to pit early. The inaugural race in 2014 featured a standing start but pole sitter Saavedra stalled as the lights went out and his car was hit by Munoz and Aleshin, showering the track with carbon-fibre and forcing a restart. It was decided that from 2015 onwards, the race would go back to having a rolling start. However, several cars came together at Turn 1, though somehow this didn't lead to a restart. In 2016 after the start and as the field moved into the Turn 1, Kanaan collected Bourdais on the outside of the corner, bringing out the first caution of the race. The race restarted after four laps under yellow. Last year the yellow came out on Lap 1, as Charlie Kimball and Ed Jones made contact. The track is a modified layout of the circuit previously used for the F1 United States Grand Prix, held from 2000 - 2007. The race is run clockwise, the opposite direction to the Indianapolis 500. Some trivia: Driver with the most wins: Will Power, 2015, 2017, 2018 Team with the most wins: Team Penske, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019. Layout: F1 course, 2000 - 2007. IndyCar Road Course. Length: 2.439 Miles (3.925 Km) Turns: 14 Lap record: Will Power, May 12, 2017. 1:07.704, 129.69 mph (208.44 km/h). Team Penske, Dallara DW12-Chevrolet IndyCar V6. Verizon IndyCar Series. Last year's race: https://www.motorsport.com/indycar/n...Bvalue%5D=2243 Pole: Felix Rosenqvist, 1:08.2785, 128.597 mph (206.956 km/h) Chip Ganassi Racing, Dallara IR18-Honda HI19R Indy V6 Winner: Simon Pagenaud, Team Penske, Dallara IR18-Chevy IndyCar V6 Laps: 85 Distance: 207.315 Miles (333.641 km) Race Time: 1:49:46 Average Speed: 103.254 Mph (166.171 km/h) Fastest Lap: Patricio O'Ward, Carlin Racing, lap 4. 69.7962 sec, 125.801 mph (202.457 km/h) Caution periods: 3 Laps 15: 11-14, 16-18, 60-67 Race broadcast: NBC. 4 July, 12:00pm ET. |

Might actually try to remember this is on and catch the race. Not sure I care about the IMSA race, the Indy road course is more fun to watch than Daytona.

Those Penske branded masks really don’t fit. None of the other teams seem to have that problem.

I guess the race is about to start.
Sadly, no TV, no stream. Looks like I'm having to miss this one. |

Sadly Marco that far back isn't uncommon. He owns the car and team so not going anywhere but wasting a grid slot, although I don't think anyone would replace that car.
Pour your early morning bourbon joeb, it's second round of racing for the day sir. F1 quali straight in to Indy after brunch for me |

It has and it was a very clean start. Though it looked like Power broke formation a little early.

As NBC guys just brought up, odds Penske can sweep the day? Road course with Xfinity means unless Cindric gets hit that's a wrap, no one is ever close to him

So glad Sky in the UK are showing this commercial free, I know it’s a holiday weekend but there seems to be more breaks on NBC than anything, missing many of the pit stops in the process.

I missed what happened to Harvey? He went from top 5 to 15 during caution.

Power's day just got worse, as he stalls on pit road.
Edit: he also gets a penalty. |

Feel bad for Pigot having engine trouble while fighting for a podium.
Veekay has impressed today, only rookie in the top 10. |

Congrats to Dixon. He certainly benefited from that yellow but that's how it goes in IndyCar.

I was distracted for most of it, sausage production and anger for a bit, but felt like NBC didn't do the race justice. Felt like I didn't watch a race after it was done. Interesting race and played out from the pit box as much as the track but that's Indy racing. Catch the caution and know what to do in response.

NBC are shocking. Their fetish of having to have a feature on something like what the ground near the podium looks like while the race is on drives me nuts.
I was rooting for Askew and then he binned it. |

NBC/NBCSN, it all leaves a lot to be desired. I gave up with their commentary team and now listen to the IndyCar Radio commentary.
