GT3 World Ranking
Here's something I've been thinking about for a bit: ATP-style world rankings for GT-drivers.
Check the attachment to see how it works. |

Now I don't know if I'll find the time and motivation to be playing around with this all year long - especially seeing how I am next to useless with Excel and similar programs, but I think it's a nice idea for some monkeying around with during the early season.
Right now I am mostly interested in you guys' opinion on the whole thing, what series should be included and what left out, and if my bonus factors for race categories and duration are about right. I think a system such as this would be the absolutely easiest way to have a GT-world series without actually having to put in much in the way of extra effort, at least "out in the field", but your mileage may of course vary. |

I think it is a pretty neat idea from a fans perspective. I wonder how a team or driver would feel about it though?
As far as what series should be included that is a tough one. Should it only be series who have GT3 as a headliner, or should a series, like IMSA, count as well when GT3 is their 4th tier category? |

I think it's a cool idea and would certainly be interested to see the results. While I don't put a huge amount of value in them for a subject like this, I enjoy stats and working with them usually so this kinda stuff appeals to me.

I like the idea of points based on number of cars beaten. That's clever.

Been thinking a bit more about that, and I think I should introduce a cut-off... otherwise it'll be weighted insanely towards doing well at Spa and even a 30th place at Spa would be worth as much as a win at the Nürburgring.

The rankings idea certainly works well in both tennis and golf and delivers on going recognition in the media.
I agree the numbers of cars beaten idea looks attractive initially but could lead to some loaded results. The other problem is the variability from year to year of the standard at some events. Keep working on it. The benefits certainly out weigh any teething problems. Can you remember some of the discussion of ATP rating early in their use. Now no one questions their status. |
