Stock Car Brazil...

Dunno if anyone is interested in this series or not, but, i started taking note of it last year - had really good #'s in it, plus same notable drivers who had had a crack at europe/usa racing in the past. Even a Brazilian driver who raced Aussie V8 Supercars for a cuppla seasons...

Round 1 was held over the weekend at Interlagos & that V8 Supercar driver, Max Wilson took the race win...

IMO we should move this topic to the touring car forum. It's on road courses and has more in common with DTM than NASCAR.

Yeah, thats interesting - heard that somewhere else aswell. Just out of curiousity, did they use to race old NASCAR's in this series?
Only posted it here because it is called "Stock Car" & this is also a "Stock Car" forum - not just NASCAR, but it doesnt bother me to much if it is put in the touring car section...

They started out as what NASCAR was a long time ago but ofcourse evolved differently. Doesn't make them lesser stockcars than NASCARS. The roadcourse argument is non existent. They try to get as close as possible to driving on ovals but as you can imagine there's very little opportunity in Brazil.

No, they started with cars based on road cars. In the late 90's they switched to a spec tube chassis with spec engine (V6?). Last year they switched to this car:

DTM on the Brazilian way...

DTM cars are high tech, Stock Car Brazil cars are much less advanced. They used carburettors until last season. I'd compare the series to V8 Supercars and the Argentine Top Race. Move this to the touring car section.

How's the racing? Last year I saw a race but it didn't really get me, but that was probably mainly due to the fact I don't understand Portugese.

Just saw a race of the pickup trucks. Interesting series. Nelsinho Piquet was 2nd.

This year they finally got BOSCH fuel injection. I have heard they use the 65% open throttle max to get arround 470HP on the V8 and a push to pass button opens it till 85% to get arround 520HP.

They had tried full throttle but 560HP seemed a bit exesive for the cars and tracks.

I guess its a highly standarized series to keep costs down.

It raced once in BsAs together with a TC2000 duet race that included many European stock car stars.

It looks like what the Argentine TC should have become.

No, I really despise standarized motorsports. I has turned all the I+D engineers into race engineers in many series I know, or sort of...

Always the same excuse: to keep the costs down.

Well, maybe if we admit that motor racing is expensive and we stop having 1.000.000 series co-existing in every country with the need of having extense cheapo grids we can return to a sport where not only the best drivers wins, but the more creative engineers, too.

I also understand that engineering creativity has merged with computing capacity these days, but still.

Let the standarized stuff to club level series.

I'm sorry, Belatti, I meant that the appearance of Stock Car Brasil cars is what the TC should have become. 40-year old bodies in the greatest series of a country is ridiculous to me. TC cars used to evolve, now they are as archaic as Nascars.

Round 4 was held at the circuit Jacarepagua - thats a classic old F1 name... Felipe Maluhy got his 1st career win, Atila Abreu continues to lead the 2010 Standings despite not winning a race thus far...

TC evolted till the 70s where our economics stalled and that coupled with oil price increase made big cars dissapear in the 80s. After the "mosters" that race in TC there was no single "big" and newer car produced in Argentina to replace them. TC rules state that: big engine + produced in Argentina.

40-year old bodies in the greatest series of a country is ridiculous to me, too.

Now it has become something about tradition...

It's indeed ridiculous but because of the tradition they should keep the current bodies.

With TC so popular I can imagine Chevrolet, Ford and Dodge want to change bodies to modern cars. Were there any plans to change bodies?

They could use the current Mustang, Camaro and Challenger, which are also retro.

Those cars were not sold nor manufactured in Argentina. People does not get identified with them.

When you go to a TC race, you can see that arround 50% of the people arriving by car to watch the race (usually 40.000 persons per race) drives a tunned or even some originally maintained Ford Falcon, Chevy SS, Dodge Polara RT or GTX or a Torino.

Ford, GM and Chrysler are not involved in any ways with TC and its governing body, the ACTC.

Ribeirão Preto was one of the options for the IndyCar race (it's Hélio's hometown).
