8valve, or 16valve stockhatch?
Just wondering if any one knows someone who is making the switch from the 8v class to the 16v.

There is also Phil Chicken's Lupo, and I had heard of one other, a Saxo.

A good 205 or 106 8 valve will give a 16v a run for its money.only problem with a 16v is that you ve got to keep it lit up .there s no power at the bottom end .ask our si he ll tell ya .he s got to keep it on the boil all the time with the metro.Am sticking with the 205 this year

I think it's race together this year, and hopefully by next year there will be enough cars to split the classes.

Are we talking about BRDA 1600 16v ? Or 2 litre as Stuart Emery has already shown a Pug 306 is a competitive mount.

Can't see there being too may cars racing. I agree with Ricky Bobby's comments on an earlier post and think a 2 litre class is a better idea if variety is what you want. This opens up the class to alot more cars whether they are 1600/1800/2 litre 16v.
You could still run a 1600 16v in this class and be competitive. These are only my personal feelings. |

I don't think the stock hatch class is particularly designed with variety in mind. Variety's good in other classes, but in a class where the emphasis is on identical performance and very close racing it makes things more complicated to have too many different cars. The cars mentioned already - 206, 207, Lupo, Saxo, C2, 106 etc. - should provide enough variety to interest fans and close enough racing to keep them on the edge of their seats! Some of them will look pretty good too. Personally, I think the idea of modernising the stock hatch class is a good one. Although it will make the cars slightly more expensive, it should certainly improve the image of the class considerably, and sponsors may well be more interested in more modern and tidy cars. As the BRDA gradually fade the older cars out, second-hand versions of these newer cars will become cheaper and more available. It will be a natural progression, I think. |

Well if you look at Phils time for when he did the BTRDA Modified Final at Croft, his time would have been good enough for him to beat Ryan Lawford (who won the stockhatch A final) by quite a bit. Thats the best example we have of 16v vs 8v. However, in London, Phil did his upmost to keep up with the 306, but that bit more power the 306 has was too much. Phils Lupo is very well prepared, its just down to the power difference. I think Pro Car 2 Litre will be a good class this year once the new cars that are being built come out, but I dont think a 1.6 16v will be taking any of the spoils. |

I've not checked the 2 litre regs in detail but what's to stop someone bringing out a second generation (2001) Civic? Looks the best bet. With 0-60 in 6.5 and 197 hp there's isn't very much that's going to beat it into the first corner - you'd struggle to compete in a 1.6 16v. Could be interesting...

Look at the ERC div2 from the past years... The Civic won this year (with Kotek), had some good results previous years (De Keersmeacker, Erickson,...) but it has still a lack of torque... The records for the Astra OPC and the Clio RS(R) are far more bigger, because they have more torque, and torque is all you need in rallycross...
But because of the end of D2 next year, i think it will be mostly ex-ERC cars that will drive in GB... |
