Err... Can I have a sports question?

PabloTeK should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
22nd October: 2 meetings, 1 circuit!

Just double-checked this and it seems the HSCC and BRSCC are running meetings at Silverstone at the same time! I assume one will be on the northern half of the circuit and the other on the southern half? Will be fascinating to see it in action...

yes .. HSCC are on the national circuit and BRSCC are running on the new international circuit (the old south) which includes the new pit lane/complex and part of the arena gp circuit which will link back on at chapel... The brscc meeting will include caterhams I believe.. Should be good..

Not that different to a few years ago, when we had a meeting on the National circuit, a meeting on the Stowe Circuit and the school cars whizzing around the South Circuit all at the same time.

I heard that two cars collided once when they were running on the different circuits. Can anyone in the Marshalling world confirm if it is true?

Two good clubs to marshal for, and usually give us fair grids and good racing (awful Speed excepted of course!).

I may well simply volunteer for the date and allow Penny to deploy me to whichever needs most help.

There are a few similar decisions to be made on other dates too :
17th April - F2 on the GP with kart sprinting on the Stowe
19th June - BMCRC (bikes) on the National with Tour Britannia on the International
1st & 2nd October - Britcar 24hr on the GP with SuperMoto (bikes) on the Stowe

Yes and no. I can remember 2 seperate incidents that both happened @ Maggots. In one a school car being driven by an Instructor stuffed it from the South Circuit but fortunately it was during the lunch break on the National circuit, so he only hit the armco not another car.
The other was a race on the National Circuit and Neil Cunningham was dicing for the lead in a Tin Top race into Maggots, when he made contact with another car forcing him onto the Grand Prix circuit minus a front wheel, and assorted bits of bodywork, he drove superbly avoiding the School cars (Ferraris if my memory serves) before coming to a halt on the Hanger straight.
One of the most impressive bits of driving I've ever seen.

One of the Jaguars saloons spun off the main circuit, got disorientated, and rejoined on the Stowe Circuit, facing 10 on-coming Lotus Elises. We think it was in 2008. No collisions occured, but a few clean sets of underwear were required!

I'm rather looking forward to the BRSCC meeting as I think it will be quite interesting to see what the racing is like on that circuit configuration (I know that Tour Britannia offers the same opportunity, but that clashes with something else).

Having done that Neil Cunningham then caught a helicopter flight so that he could then race at Donington on the same day.

Something similar happend at the WHT in 2008; a car went straight on at Becketts ending up on the Southern circuit, with a number of school cars heading towards him. No contact, though.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like it can be quite interesting when there is more than one circuit being used on the same day.

Both race controls
Two sets of radio frequencies
Rescue/medical requirements for both circuit licences

Might be possible to double-up the recovery units

And as Chezza notes, lots of marshals.

From SCL's point of view I can see why they'd want to do this as often as possible, so it will be interesting to see how well it works.

If that's the same incident that I'm thinking of, the driver overshot at Becketts then drove around the tyre chicanes separating the 2 circuits to spin round where there was more room behind them. With lots of shouts & gesticulations from marshals, he realised the error of his ways before he reached the southern circuit.

The new barriers are much more substantial & do a better job of separating the 2 circuits.

Should make Becketts outside an interesting post. I've been posted there while the Nissan Playstation Academy was running on the southern while I was marshalling BTCC on the National. Got quite hairy at times, specially when it started to rain!!

Some might say that the scanner listening may be quite interesting on the two circuit days as long as the communications haven't moved over to digital systems.

I couldn't possibly comment.

Mind you the circuits have changed so the cars are very limited as to where they can meet each other.
