Comical moments...?
After a mildly comical Grand Prix by Massa, what pieces of driver ineptitude have made you laugh out loud over the years?
I seem to recall Jacques cracking up back in '02 or '01 when Yoong went out for Minardi at Monaco and binned it at the first corner in quali, whilst being the only guy on the track rofl: |

Sato in the Jordan in Oz, over the radio:
''Take care Taku, the track is very slippery.'' ''Too late, I've crashed.'' |

Taki Inoue getting run over by a course car. Could have been tragic but somehow it seemed to sum up F1's answer to Frank Spencer.
When both Ferraris spun on the warm-up lap at Imola one year in the rain ('91?), Prost was out on the spot and Alesi lasted about two laps...there was some schadenfreude in seeing the stands empty. Simply because people who are only interested in seeing one team/person win don't deserve to be watching a GP. |

Pedro de la Rosa falling in a river...not exactly inept, but certainly amusing.

Judging by the crowd around me at Silverstone this weekend most people are only there to see one person!

Not the drivers fault... but do you all remember Ralf Schumacher, Williams-BMW in Spa 2001? Think this was comical as well.

I seem to remember DC getting it completely wrong in Adelaide back in '95, when he came into the pit entry too fast and just slid into the pit wall, it was less than impressive...

Ant Davidson's comments on Massa's comical performance are pretty comical too:

Well some big boy's talk there eh, "rubbish" and "useless" .... I wouldnt go as far as saying its comical but some tough words indeed Besides, it was Anthony who?
The moment truly made me laugh was when De La Rosa jumped over the fence in a manner like he was the coolest guy in the world, and there was no ground at the other side, he disapeared and fell into a river |

I still dont get why DC middle fingered MS there, he wasnt even ahead, besides if he brakes earlier he coulda gone for the inside line and who knows, pull a move that works, that one was never going to.

Christian Albers driving off with the fuel hose was quite tragi-comic, especially as it spelt the end of his F1 career. And I'm sure even Lewis Hamilton will laugh at his own pitlane misdemeanour when he looks back on his career.

Mansell hitting the head while waving to the public in the top a truck... can't quite remember where it was.

Austria 1986, IIRC.
Deletraz going so slowly in a corner that he stalled. Australia? In retrospect, the Spa 1998 race was deeply comical, but it could have been tragic. Schumi crashing out to give Jordan a 1-2 was profoundly amusing, but the real comedy was Ricardo Rosset - big pile-up with cars everywhere, most of those at the back desperately locking up to try to slew to a halt before getting involved, but Rosset took the Playstation approach of blasting right through the accumulated wreckage. Unfortunately he didn't have damage mode turned off. |

Montoya spins on formation lap - the best was Brawn's laugh - unfortunatelly couldn't find that on youtube
I still can't stop laughing when I see these marshalls not knowing what to do - the best one is the guy who's turning the left front wheel - by the way - that commentary scream is also hilarious. not an F1 but still funny - link |

Mansell stalling it at Canada in '91 - losing a certain win on the last lap...
Senna retiring on the final lap of the British GP 3 years in a row, and correct me if I am wrong - was it the same corner all three years? Lavaggi in 1995, Hockenheim - I think in the Minardi, the car had stopped, he was casually getting out until he realised that flames were licking his helmet... |
