ALMS Rnd 1: 12 Hours of Sebring 14-17 Mar 2007

Time for the first race thread of 2007!

It's less than a week (Monday 12th) before the cars take to the track for the first Test Sessions prior to the '55th Annual Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring'. First 'official' practice is on Wednesday 14th, with two sessions. A further practice session and qualifying take place on Thursday and the race itself on the Saturday.

From the official ALMS website:

Entry List

Event Schedule

Live Timing and Scoring

American Le Mans Radio Broadcast

Live television coverage will be on Speed and Motors TV (depending on your geographical location).

Can't wait!!

edited to add the spotter's guide v.2:

http://www.rennsport-beraten.com/spo...ng_2007_v2.pdf

edited again to remind users to log in for raceday chat on either the website chat here, or by IRC at irc.phishy.net channel #Motorsport. You can get a nice IRC freeware client out there, just google it...

cant wait, wish speed would stop covering every aspect of a nascar event and actually show some of the practice sessions for those of us that have been waiting for this race since laguna seca. definitely want to see how the Acuras will hold up and will the Audis sandbag to try to get back the ACO LMP2 restrictors? Could see them constantly adjusting the fuel, etc to maintain just faster pace than the Penske (sorry for the conspiracy slip there )

I reckon they'll come close in qualifying, but P&M's years of Sebring experience will tell come the race itself.

The one disappointment I do have is the absence of an entry from Creation themselves (debuting the 'big wheeled' hybrid). I guess budget was key........

Yes I was sorry to see that omission also! One would have thought a little more R&D/set-up time would have been desireable to both parties!? Oh well!

Sebring is always a great way to kick off the new season. It's a shame that more European teams don't come over just for the chance to compete. P2 and GT2 should keep things pretty interesting. Looking forward to it.

Also, don't forget to check out the Fantasy Racing Challenge:

Hmm interesting new Audi livery, reminds me of the new McLaren F1 livery. Better than last year. Looks like we could be in for a good battle this year, I wonder if Intersport can take the fight to Audi at all, or even the ex Dyson lola, or if the biggest challenge will come from Penske and Acura?

GT1 has potential to be good too, Turner is capable of taking the fight to the best of the Corvette guys if he is given a competitive car and Garcia is a good professional driver too. Liz Halliday is probably the weakest link in the team but hey she is normally pretty quick too. Are team Modena sticking around for the entire 2007 ALMS season or just Sebring?

Well also if your goal is LeMans in 08, I would think that someone would come over to play for the season and get in on points since more than likely one of the Vette's will get in via PLM! So if you hung around long enough for points "Bobs your uncle"!!

I think that the Aston has very good chance of winning.s The DBR9s have always been strong cars. If they can run without any huge set backs and play their cards right, they are very capable of winning. Not to mention the back straight at Sebring and the obvious top end advantage Aston has over Corvette.
