ETC good but not as good as BTC?
After finally seeing my first ETC race yesterday, first impressions where good.
However I don't think we realise how lucky we are in the UK to have the BTC. The cars look and sound alot better and there is plenty more action. I mean there wasn't evan a safety car period. I know BTC has a head start but Its just a better package IMO. |

I couldn't agree more. The BTCC has much better looking cars which actually sound like racing cars too. Also the BTCC has the extra interest of pitstops, and a secondary Production class that is just as good as the Tourers.

ETC races are too short to have safety cars!

The 2nd BTCC race at Donnington was superb. Seeing them go 3 wide, 3 deep into the melbourne loop isn't something to be missed! great racing!

We'll have to wait and see what next year is like, but I still carn't see it being better.
Does MG really want to join this series?, maybe in europe it gets a better following? |

If MG really want to join up with the ETCC, it's not because of the racing. It's been cited in another thread that the SuperWeekends get average crowds of 30,000 across Europe. I think MG want to tap into this, establish a fan base, etc.

There was near 70k at MotoGP and near 60k for BSB final.
What I'm saying is the ETC was hardly a great event, the GT's where good and entertaining. If the BTC was abroad maybe the crowds would be evan bigger, the racing is closer and harsher, which is what the average punter wants to see. |

The BTCC is a great championship, that is something that i have no doubt of, but i think what puts people off is the fact that the championship has names that no average casual motorsport fan has heard of. If i said Anthony Reid, David Leslie to anyone i know, they'd say who???? but still, they enjoy motor racing they say, so long as its F1....
that's the big problem, so many "motorsport fans" are quite happy to sit down on sunday afternoon to watching yawnsome F1 cars with quite literally, miles between them, but not concern themselves with what they percieve to be little road cars, i.e. Btcc what can be done about it? raise the profile of the BTCC would be a start, but how? its nearly impossible to bring in big names without driving up costs and ending up to a late 90s scenario of a series killing itself with its own success. I don't think the BTCC will ever draw huge crowds like F1, but i don't care. flipant to say that, but so long as its exciting, close and ticking over economically, it'll be the best series in the minds of the hardcore fans. |

In my view the ETCC cars look far better than the "garage enthusiast" look of the BTCC cars.
I still think those BTCC rear wings are laughable. |
