Oulton Park
Was just wondering, what is the approximate crowd size like for the F3/GT meetings at Oulton? Reason being we don't live near Oulton, and my dad has never driven there before. And both times I've been there with a friend we've arrived on the Saturday, when it was less busy (this was for BTCC). Should we expect a roughly BTCC size crowd, and if so what time what time should we aim to be at the circuit for? Cheers!

I think they used to get around 10,000 (probably about 2/3 Touring Cars) - Oulton's one of the better attended F3 meetings. I didn't go last year though so I don't know what it was like then.
Saturday I wouldn't expect there to be any traffic problems. Sunday maybe, but then the action doesn't start until 12:00. I'd aim for 11, unless you want to see the pit lane walkabout, in which case obviously go for a bit earlier. |

Well a few years back it used to be chocablock at F3 and BTCC, this year at the BTCC round they didnt even use both sides of the road going out of the circuit.
Might I also suggest this is better in the Trackside Forum. |

The BTCC round seemed a surprisngly small crowd, i was stood at the outside of lodge for the first btcc race and there was less than 20 people there, compared to the ten deep crowd at the superbikes a few weeks previous. I can't see the crowd being huge to be honest, but I would say get there for 10 and you should drive straight in.

Can someone make sure they post how many go please? Just because I'm in Venice on holiday at the mo. (Apologies if words appear together - space bar doesn't work properly and it's an Italian keyboard so I'm getting confused too!). |

Sure am! About to take a book out to sit by the canal and read.... Big festival this weekend, bridge up to walk over to main island, and south of the main island a hell of a lot of boats are moored. Tonight (at 23:30) there's an hours fireworks display - lovely!
Back t topic....how busy was it today? |

Don't know crowd figures, but it was pretty good. Decent enough crowd to create an "atmosphere", but not so many as to stop you standing wherever you wanted. We got there at 10:30, went straight in, looked round the paddock, then drove out, and back in at Knickerbrook
Was a great day, knackered now though (been a long weekend ) |

My guess was around 8,000 people. Have to underline that this is only a guess that I've made based on experience of previous crowds at Oulton though, and it's not from any reliable source whatsoever.

I don't know how many were there as I was at Old Hall and you cannot really tell there. Very wet Saturday until mid afternoon and the helicopter crash on Sunday. It was a good mmeting though with some good racing, just a pity the Caterhams didn't have a bigger entry as they were exciting.

The BBC teletext report on the helicopter crash gives the crowd as 3,000! That seems low to me; Paul's 8,000 is probably nearer the mark.

It depends what they're counting, Dave. Sometimes you get figures just of those that paid (which could be 3,000), but if you decide to add on all the people involved with the racing that have passes/free tickets, it gets higher. Because different circuits do it in different ways, this is why TOCA don't release crowd figures any more - because it's very difficult to compare those from one circuit with another.

I went!
Even though it wasn't as hot as last year, the crowd seemed to be bigger! ? |
