STCC: New S2000 Saab to be showed at Mantorp-finale
TouringCarTimes has received information that a completely new car is being build in S2000 specification and will be showed during the Swedish Touring Car Championship finale at Mantorp this weekend. The car is from a manufacturer that previously never has been represented in either STCC or the S2000 rules.
The car will perform its first shakedown today in Sweden by a former STCC-race winner. Read more at: http://www.touringcartimes.com/news.php?id=2731 |

Could indeed be one of the new Asian producers. In any case, having a car ready to at least be displayed already now should mean it can be competitive already in 2009. So that can only be good.

Maybe it's the Lancia? (Then again, the FIAT via Alfas are not new to STCC either...) |

What about a Subaru?
There was a rumour floating about that they may enter as they're having to develop an S2000 rally car. |

Tested today by a former STCC-winner. Tobias Johansson has won a race in 2001 and he is looking at a new projekt when his Merc deal fell through last year, I think its him who has something on the way. Remember, he also showed the new Mercedes for the first time at the STCC finale at Mantorp 4 years ago. Question is, what car is it?

Is the picture on TCT a clue, cos i've got it open in Windows desperatly trying to enhance the image and identify the car. So far i've got a blurry, smudgy outline of what looks like some sort of mercedes. Since it is deffinatly not merc, I guess you just used a photo of any car.

Okay, still on the picture here.
The front headlights and dropping off back, Chrysler Sebring? It's a massive, average looking car, but could be interesting in race trim. |

I think the new car and Manufacturer will make a great addition to the championship.

I agree about the rear. It looks more like a saloon.

Could it be Citroen? Maybe not, since Peugeot is already in the series. But I just remembered that Kenneth Hansen was rumoured to have STCC-plans in some way, maybe their (Hansen Motorsport) participation in JTCC this year is a hint? Can't see what the car behind the "?" is, maybe a Toyota or Lexus? What team will run it? Team CaWalli? They had ambitions to step into STCC again. Or is Picko Troberg Racing involved? The "?" remains an "?", at least for me

There are Toyota S2000 cars, so it can't be the Japanese brand.

Could it be a Saab? And if so, are Saab GM owned? I thought i read somewhere they were, but i might be wrong.
OTOH, STCC is the only TCC with no GM official entry. |
