Which Camera

Hi Guys

just out of interest - does anyone else out there use a Konica Minolta 7D apart from me.
It appears from everyones posts on here that the Canon Digitals are the favourites for motosports use, so what do you all think are the benefits of your choice of camera over the rivals.

Well I chose a Pentax *ist Ds and apart from the silly name it has performed well.

It was reasonably priced and offered compatibilty with my existing lens collection. I am in the proccess of adding to my collection from the significant number of used K mount lenses that have been produced ovr the years. They can be reasonably priced too.

I hace only had it afew months and the more I learn about th ecamera and digital photography the more I realise how much more there is to know.

So most of the limits of my images is my failings not my equipment.

My reason for going with the Minolta 7D was compatability with the old lens also it is a big learning curve though isnt it- like you say every time you use the camera you discover/learn something else

Yes the conditions were awful - they must of run near half the race under a pace car.

In fact whilst on that subject - how do other people cope with the effect that the headlights have on the camera sensors - the digital seems to react so quick to the extra light that everything is underexposed - any hints would be appreciated

I have had to tackle the problem of headlights throwing off the metering in my D2x . . the solution for me was simple . . manual metering.

I keep a check on the metering every few cars by pointing my camera at the tarmac and slightly under exposing.

I had come to pretty much the same conclusion - just need a lot more practice with the camera - but then again- dont really want to be out in those sort of conditions too often.

Manual exposure is the easiest way to combat that sort of thing.

My Nikon D70 has a AE Lock button which is quite handy. You need to change a menu setting so it doesn't also lock the focus, but it works well.

the Minolta 7D has an AE lock button - will have to find some similar conditions and experiment more, clearly lots to learn, but once again thanks for everyones advise
