Ferrari's new yellow overalls...
I think we might see a yellow and white Ferrari soon to appease Shell and Malboro...

Yellow is a traditional Ferrari colour (Giallo?) and I belive that Marlboro Mclarens ran in the M23/ M26 era in Yellow and white "Marlboro Lights " livery.

Although their traditional F1 colour is scarlet - far more what I'd prefer to see than yellow F1 cars. Put some yellow on a Ferrari, it'd look too much like the '93 BMS cars (maybe bring back memories for Badoer though!)

The best looking ferrari road car ever (in my opinion) was the 246Dino, and it looked better than ever in factory Yellow (called daytona yellow by some).
That's why the Ferrari badge is yellow, with the prancing horse. And to be picky - Ferrari's haven't raced in Italian Racing Red for many years. The true colour is more of a blood red, much darker. I seem to remember the last one's in the "real" colour were back in the Berger/Alesi era, unless someone wishes to correct me. The current more flourescent red is a sop to Phillip Morris, and Marlboro' - look at the old Marlboro McLarens of years gone by for the same colour. The McLaren's ran in the traditional McLaren orange. A colour which has been used on the car as recently as the 2006 launch - before they decided to go down the "chrome" route. While we're at it - national racing colours of years gone by... who'll help me out here: British Green (deep brunswick green) Dutch Orange Belgium Yellow French Pale Blue Italy Red (Rosso Corsa) Japan White with red sun Germany White (were white until 1934 when to save weight, they polished the aluminium, and didn't paint them!!) America was originally red, but they didn't take to it, and the Italians adopted it. Finished up with white with blue underframe Ahhh, just found this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of..._racing_colors Monaco and Mexico have the same colours, except the colours of the numbers would be different! Back to Michaels Overalls, at least they don't look like a Hawaiian Shirt!! I think they're pretty smart. Manufacturers like Stand21 and Alpine Stars have produced some really fancy designs, and the other's are catching up.. Rob. |

I think 1997 was the break? Perhaps '96 had shifted actually, but 1997 took it to another, rather hideous, level (which has been moved back from).

I think that the colour is nice, but it does not look so good on a man. Would be a nice outfit for a female driver, though.

Hey, there pretty cool. Distinctive...
Lets hope they don't change the car colour. Ferrari just wouldn't be the same without the red |

Oh dear, Michael needs home decorating tips. The paint goes on the wall, not down your front!
Seriously, this is quite cool. Everyone is going mad at monaco, helmet swaps, outrageous overalls etc...... |

I wonder how people would react if they sat across the track from the pits, waiting for an all red TGF to show up, and suddenly this yellow/red character starts waving at them (would they recognize from that distance)

I guess Monaco is the top event of the season, no wonder they all look like hollywood stars.

AFAIK only Schumacher has a yellow racing suit. Neither Massa nor the Ferrari mechanics are wearing them.
Edit: In fact, there are seven stars, and further in fact, the suit has 'SCHUMI' written in large letters on the back. I suspect that this is just Schumacher's love of gaudy fashion sneaking into his day job. Last edited by StickShift; 25 May 2006 at 23:59. |

The red is the national colour of Italy, every Italian manufacturer racing in F1 has used it, from Maserati to Alfa Romeo to Ferrari. Yellow really is the official colour of Ferrari, it's just that they still used the corsa rosso 'till 1997 purely for traditional reasons. On the suit, even my 4 year old niece could come up with a better design than that! Last edited by ASCII Man; 26 May 2006 at 07:06. |

I wasn't specifically referring to F1, thinking more of Sportscars
Indeed, in the early days (pre the "modern F1" 1950+) you HAD to race in your national colours Last edited by Notso Swift; 26 May 2006 at 07:07. |

For a moment there I thought they were already preparing for the Alliance sponsorship...
I think the overalls are absolutely hideous. |

It looks pretty cool. It could just be a Monaco one-off though, like Red Bull's Superman livery for this year.
*edit* Schumi is the only one wearing these overalls. Even Massa is in his usual outfit... Last edited by Down F0rce; 26 May 2006 at 07:39. |
