Why do you think they'll retire the Viper, they only just had a new V8 engine built for it. They'll use it for another season or two.

Will be interesting for sure.

The current Viper is pegged back with lots of ballast.

The German Championship has a 6.2l engine size limit.

In the 24hrs they still use the V10.

In fact, it's not as bad as it used to be; but the V10 engine is restricted down to "ca." 500hp. The V8 is said to produce "ca." 480hp.

The turbo 996 could get into the high 700s if they let it...

Could someone explain why several drivers are entered for more than one car?

Because they are allowed to drive more than one car. And they will.

The number 2 Porsche is my favorite. That thing is stupid fast!!!!! The driver line-up aint bad either; Alzen brothers with Klaus Ludwig and Michael Bartels. The #66 Zakspeed Viper will also be strong, they don't have the driver line-up they once had, but Markus Grossman is tops and will lead the team well.

This is always a fun race. I'm also keeping an eye on #136 the Opel Astra.

The works BMWs should be pretty strong too (provided they don't catch fire!) - Muller/Muller/Stuck and Lamy/Said/Huisman doesn't leave much to be desired, and we know how quick the M3 GTR is (don't we, Ayse?).

No the Skyline is not ex-JGTC; it is based on a Super Taikyu car.

The Skyline is quite reliable these days but quick? (it is raining at the moment so we have 4WD weather; the forecast for the weekend is "changeable").

The NSX is quick but.............................

I know its a bit off the topic but how does the pit system work at the 24 hour? Sharing between entries?

Certainly not off topic,Big Mac,this is something that has always fascinated me.From TV coverage of previous years they certainly do share. Le Mans was told they can only start 49 cars on a 8 mile circuit, whereas Nurburgring manage 270 starters with about the same number of garages!

I'll say again - it's total madness to have this the same weekend as Le Mans.

the organizers didn't like it but there was no other weekend... the spectators don't seem to care since over 200.000 are expected for the race, more than for the f1 race

I think most visitors of the German race would not visit LM, and reversed.

True, but there is some crossover in potential drivers.

The Land Motorsport Porsche qualified 2nd in class (Franz Konrad and Marino Franchitti are in it) a very good performace if you ask me. only 2nd to the Semi-Works Manthey team. And im very happy to see the Alzen Porsche on pole! just hope the car can last. it seems like the car has had relibility problems..

I dont follow the VLN that much, and have in the past tried to follow the ring 24hrs by watching the live T&S. but it will be hard because of le mans.

i hope DSC will give some updates. its hard to follow the happenings if its just in german. i know a little german, and its hard to follow.

but anyways, i wish Franz Konrad and co. in the Land Porsche, and Uwe Alzen and co. in the Alzen Porsche good luck!!

Meantime, 2 Australian-prepared Mitsubishi Mirage (Cyborg) RS's in the hands of Mal Rose and co are competing in cars #152 and #153... similar cars competed at the Bathurst 24hr and lasted the whole event without one mechanical issue...
